Trump declares Dem’s House seat ‘conceded’ and orders Republicans to inform Mike Johnson

President Donald Trump declared Friday that Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar’s congressional seat had been “conceded” and instructed two Republican allies to deliver the news to House Speaker Mike Johnson.

The remarks, during a rambling speech in Fort Myers, Florida, echoed a Truth Social post Trump made Thursday night after prosecutors referred to the Minnesota Democrat by another name in a federal court filing. Trump also repeated his unproven claim that Omar once married her brother, which she has denied.

“Because Ilhan used a fake name to be sworn in, I assume that she must immediately resign from Congress,” Trump told supporters.

He then turned to Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) and Sen. Ashley Moody (R-FL), who were in the crowd, and asked them to “please inform the Speaker of the House of Representatives, James Michael Johnson,” interrupting himself to joke that the crowd “didn’t know his first name was James.”

“The Dumocrat Party has just conceded the seat of the former Ilhan Omar from the lovely country of Somalia,” Trump said.

Democrats have not conceded the seat, and Omar remains in office.

The New York Post reported that prosecutors referred to Omar in a federal court filing as “Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, a/k/a Ilhan Abdullahi Omar.” U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro said on Fox News Thursday that the Justice Department believes her real name is Elmi. The claims come amid a federal investigation into Omar’s citizenship, and agents raided her Washington home earlier this month.

After the raid, Omar accused the president of trying to “weaponize federal law enforcement” and said she “will not be silenced.” She has denied marrying her brother.
