Awkward moment ensues as Trump's praise for Lindsey Graham goes off the rails on Fox News

An awkward moment ensued as President Donald Trump paid tribute to the late Sen. Lindsey Graham on Fox News.

The 80-year-old president called into "Fox & Friends" on Tuesday to discuss his friend on the morning of his memorial services, and after trashing his golf game – "he loved it, but he wasn’t born to be a golfer" – Trump spoke about the late senator's apparent bloodlust, reported The Daily Beast.

"I mean, Lindsey liked war, to be honest with you, okay, and I said, you're a nice guy," Trump said. "How come you like war so much? He was a guy that liked war. I jokingly say, and there's nothing funny about it, but he's never seen a war that he didn't like."

"He was very much into that -- you know, for good reason," he continued. "He felt that way, some other people feel that way."

"But he was very strong on the military," Trump added. "Very strong on the military, and I built a great military and he helped me. We built it during my first term and we use it now, but I built a great military."

Co-host Ainsley Earhardt then awkwardly interrupted Trump to point out the late senator's sister, Darline Graham Nordone, had claimed the opposite last week during an interview with Sean Hannity.

“She said he didn’t love war,” Earhardt told the president.

“He loves peace, and he loves the end of the war," Trump replied. "But sometimes war is necessary.”

Trump was expected to speak at Graham's funeral, which will also be attended by lawmakers, military leaders and foreign allies like Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
