Roseanne Barr has issued a formal apology after she made a racist joke about former Obama White House Senior Adviser Valerie Jarrett.

"I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans," Barr wrote on Twitter. "I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me -- my joke was in bad taste."

Earlier on Tuesday, Barr joked that Jarrett was the offspring of the “Muslim Brotherhood & Planet of the Apes.”
