President Donald Trump turned his attention to daylight saving time Wednesday evening, complaining about early sunsets and blaming the Senate for failing to act just one day after Republicans suffered a crushing midterm election defeat.
“Too bad the Senate has not yet approved the Sunshine Protection Act or, the I Don’t Want to Change My Clocks Anymore Act,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
“It’s so dark outside, so early,” he complained, noting that the sun had set at 5:06 P.M., “and it was dark by 5:31 P.M.”
“Isn’t that ridiculous?” Trump asked. “Just a few days ago it was so nice and sunny at this same time.”
Trump then claimed he had deliberately avoided raising the issue before Tuesday’s election to protect Republican candidates.
“I didn’t want to make a big deal out of this prior to the Election because I didn’t want to have certain Senators lose their Race, in a landslide, but it is too bad they can’t get it done,” he wrote.
Trump then blamed the Senate for failing to advance the legislation.
“We have far bigger priorities, but I will keep fighting for this!” the president concluded.
