Trump attacks Mike Pence as soft on abortion in falsehood-filled overnight rant

Donald Trump lashed out at his former vice president for criticizing his latest statement on abortion.

The ex-president issued a video statement Monday taking credit for the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that overturned Roe v. Wade but stopped short of backing a national ban, and former Vice President Mike Pence called that position "a slap in the face to the millions of pro-life Americans who voted for him in 2016 and 2020."

"Former Vice President (thank you President Trump!) Mike Pence has been doing a lot of talking about Abortion lately," Trump posted at 1:40 a.m. on Truth Social. "He never felt I would be able to kill Roe v Wade and bring it back to the States where, according to all legal scholars, it belongs. He started at no abortion for any reason, and then allowing abortions for up to 6 weeks, then up to 15 weeks, and then, who knows? But it doesn’t matter because the Radical Left Democrats will never approve anything on this issue, and Republicans don’t have anywhere close to the number of Senators necessary to make it matter."

Pence was the only major GOP White House challenger to back a national ban on abortion at six weeks, before many women realize they're pregnant, and had asked the other 2024 candidates to support a 15-week federal ban as the minimum national standard, but in his response to Trump stated his personal view was that "human life begins at conception and should be defended from womb to tomb."

"Mike has been getting very bad advice from Mark Long, & others," Trump said. "That’s why he’s polling at 1%. With better advice, he would be polling at a solid 2%, and maybe even more!!! Everyone must ask Democrats if they would allow abortions in the 7th, 8th, or 9th month, or allow the execution of a baby after birth, as was suggested by the former Democrat Governor of Virginia. They are the Radicals, not the Republicans!"

In reality, there is no law that allows for babies to be "executed" after they are born and "all legal scholars" do not think that Roe v. Wade should have been overturned.
