'Visible cringe': Serviceman scowls amid Trump rant on 'people who don't speak languages'
February 29, 2024
A serviceman standing behind Donald Trump at a border town press conference Thursday was seen scowling as the former president ranted against "people who don't speak languages."
Trump's visit to Eagle Pass, Texas, was capped with a press conference to discuss U.S. border patrol policies likely to be at the heart of the 2024 presidential campaign.
"Nobody can explain to me how allowing millions of people from places unknown, from countries unknown, who don't speak languages," Trump said in a fragment sentence. "They're truly foreign languages — nobody speaks them."

At a dueling press conference in Brownsville, Texas, President Joe Biden called on Trump to put policy before politics and allow congress to pass border control legislation.
"Instead of telling members of congress to block this legislation, join me or I’ll join you in telling the congress to pass this bipartisan border security bill," Biden said. "We can do it together. Instead of playing politics, let’s get it done."
Most commenters who viewed video of Trump's comments on X were quick to note what they described as Trump's hypocritical and xenophobic rhetoric.
"That is no language I understand," wrote Lance Bratt. "Send him back to that unknown country."
"People don't speak the languages that people who don't speak languages speak?" asked X user Adam.
"Donald Trump’s racism is so deep," replied Phillip-USA, "he can’t even see it."
What X user "Poor Disappointed Abe" saw was a reaction caught on camera: "Visible cringe & discomfort from the Serviceman in green fatigues."
