Trump surrogate falsely says CrowdStrike firm plotted to 'take down' voting machines

Carla Sands, a surrogate for Donald Trump, falsely claimed this week that internet security firm CrowdStrike was plotting to take down voting machines on Election Day.

Sands, Trump's former ambassador to Denmark, made the remarks at a Wednesday rally in Pennsylvania for the former president.

While explaining her role in the Trump campaign, Sands referred to a recent worldwide outage that saw flights canceled because many Windows computers received a flawed software update.

"What I'm doing right now is I'm encouraging everybody to get out and vote, but not to wait until election day," Sands said. "We just saw CrowdStrike take down almost all the flights in our country."

"And they said they were doing that in preparation for election day," she added. "So I want you to think about what could happen on election day that would take down all the machines or all the power."

"And I want you to promise me that you're going to register to vote today."

Reuters recently debunked right-wing rumors on social media that claimed CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz said the software failure "was a successful test run for the real thing coming in November."

“That claim is unequivocally false,” a spokesperson for CrowdStrike told the outlet.
