A report that Donald Trump is shopping around for a new White House chief of staff just before the midterm election is baffling and amusing some of his critics.
On Thursday morning, Politico Playbook reported that current Chief of Staff Susie Wiles may be on her way out the door with the president calling allies and floating the names of replacements, including advisor Stephen Miller.
With the report indicating that the “knives are out” for Wiles, who appears to have lost the president’s confidence, social media was flooded with comments about a White House that was already struggling before the latest disruption.
Political strategist Simon Rosenberg called the latest news proof that there are “incredible levels of internal chaos in the White House right now.”
An amused conservative Rick Wilson greeted the news with a tongue-in-cheek, “Uh oh!”
“Amazing, knives out yet again for another senior woman in the Trump regime, when the men in the regime have sons who have done far worse and suffered zero consequences,” observed author and analyst Amy Siskind.
Former Rep. Barbara Comstock (R-VA) agreed and wrote, “The boys have the knives out for @SusieWiles - because, of course, the girl has to take the fall for Trump - instead of the guys like @stephenm @billpulte299 @hegseth @SecScottBessent who have come up with the losing policies.”
“Politico reports Trump calling around to pals asking if it’s time to chop Susie Wiles. Apparently he’s really pissed about Wiles’ daughter and WH pol consultants shamelessly cashing in with sketchy Russians. Wow! Selling out to creepy Russians for $!!! He must be so shocked!!” former GOP strategist Mike Murphy sarcastically wrote.
Puck News correspondent Leigh Ann Caldwell claimed the Politico Playbook report falls in line with her own recent reporting, explaining, ”@playbookdc is reporting today that Trump is asking around about Susie Wiles. This bolsters my story from earlier this week that Trump is laying the groundwork to blame his top political strategist James Blair for midterm losses. To call Wiles and Blair close is an understatement.”
"Playbook reports that Trump is considering replacing Susie Wiles, the last thing from preventing his Admin from REALLY going off the rails. He wants to blame SUSIE that people hate him and is considering promoting Stephen Miller, one main reason why people DO hate him” suggested analyst Marcy Wheeler.
