Trump cries 'national security' when demanding the New York Times reveal the anonymous senior White House official

President Donald Trump's predictable response erupted Wednesday evening when he demanded The New York Times reveal the anonymous writer behind the infamous op-ed.

"Does the so-called 'Senior Administration Official' really exist, or is it just the Failing New York Times with another phony source?" he tweeted. "If the GUTLESS anonymous person does indeed exist, the Times must, for National Security purposes, turn him/her over to government at once!"

Trump has already indicated he thinks it might be treasonous.

It wouldn't be the first time a reporter was jailed in the United States after the government demanded a source.

In 2005, New York Times reporter Judith Miller was jailed after refusing to divulge a source who disclosed the name of CIA operative Valerie Plame.
