Trump whined about Dems 'outplaying' GOP on wall negotiations after Hannity criticized him on-air: CNN

Donald Trump has been whining to advisers about Democrats outmaneuvering Republicans on negotiations to avert another government shutdown while also trying to get funding for his border wall with Mexico.

According to White House insiders that spoke to CNN, Trump began phoning advisers from the plane ride back from El Paso, Texas on Monday after Fox News host Sean Hannity cut away from his rally to criticize the supposed "deal" the president brokered with Democrats.

"1.3 billion? That's not a — not even a wall, a barrier?" Hannity said Monday night. "Any Republican that supports this garbage compromise, you will have to explain."

During the post-rally calls, Trump "bemoaned" Republicans' "lackluster" negotiating skills, the report noted.

Hannity changed his tone by the next day, CNN noted — a switch that may have been crafted by Republicans seeking to avoid another government shutdown.

"I'm not happy either," the host said Tuesday. "Nobody should be happy. The president has every right to be angry."

He went on to say that although he doesn't have "insider information," he believes Trump is likely to declare a national emergency.

Between Monday and Tuesday, CNN reported, White House aides began making calls to Trump-friendly media members to try to paint it as more of a loss for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who has previously said she would not fund the wall at all.

"The President's advisers placed the calls in the hopes Trump's media allies would adopt a more optimistic outlook -- and in turn dissuade the President from rejecting the deal and triggering another government shutdown," the report noted.

Aides were reportedly "relieved" when Fox & Friends and others began framing the negotiations to their liking, CNN added.
