MS NOW's Joe Scarborough highlighted new reporting about the inner workings of President Donald Trump's White House that will likely become the subjects of criminal prosecutions.
New York Times correspondents Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan reported that Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller proposed suspending habeas corpus to speed up mass deportations, and both he and Vice President JD Vance pushed the president to invoke the Insurrection Act in Minnesota, and the "Morning Joe" host said those actions were plainly unconstitutional.
"This wasafter they hadalready gunned down twoinnocent Americans for doingjust that, for protesting, andyet they're still talking aboutenacting the Insurrection Act," Scarborough said. "They're still talking aboutsuspending habeas corpusthrough this entire period. Youknow, maybe it's just thelawyer in me, but excerpts fromthis book are reading – whether you look at Todd Blanchetrying to cover up one of thebiggest pedophile rings in the history of America, or you have the vicepresident and Stephen Millertalking about habeas corpus, suspending habeas corpus, andthe Insurrection Act."
"That sure does look like a place where alot of lawyers in the futureare going to start discovery intheir investigations, whetherit is with a Democratic Congress, whether it is withprosecutors, because thepresident may try to pardon a lot of people," Scarborough added. "He'snot going to be able to pardonthe entire government, and these just seemto be clearly illegal acts or aconspiracy to commit illegalacts."
White House insiders are already scrambling to deflect previous revelations that came from their forthcoming book, "Regime Change," which hits the shelves June 23, and Scarborough said this would raise the temperature even further.
"No wonder, and I knowyou've heard this, like I'veheard this," Scarborough said, "no wonder the White House is melting down over thisbook because there's so manypeople who are exposed who aregoing to have to hold up theirright hand at some point andtake an oath and tell everybodywhat happened behind thoseclosed doors, because even the glimpse we're getting from thisbook is ugly."
