Trump will travel to Jeff Sessions's home town -- to campaign for his opponent: report

President Donald Trump has found a new way to humiliate the man whom he once named as his first attorney general.

CNN's Kaitlan Collins reports that Trump next month plans to travel to former Attorney General Jeff Sessions's home town of Mobile, Alabama to campaign for Tommy Tuberville, who is running against Sessions for the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate in Alabama.

Collins also reports that the "rally is expected to be in same stadium where Sessions joined Trump on stage in 2015."

Even though Sessions was the first U.S. senator to endorse Trump's campaign, the two men fell out after Sessions recused himself in the probe into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

Sessions faced relentless criticism from Trump during his tenure as attorney general, as the president called him “weak” and “beleaguered” after he recused himself from the Russia probe.

Trump often lamented that Sessions would not act as his personally attorney and openly admitted he wanted his attorney general to act more like the late Roy Cohn, the disgraced attorney who was disbarred in 1986 shortly before his death.

Trump has since regularly tried to humiliate Sessions, first by endorsing Tuberville, then by openly taunting him after he was forced into a runoff vote earlier this year.
