Trump's taxes targeted in new investigation by congressional Dems

House Democrats are moving to obtain President Donald Trump's tax returns.

Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) has scheduled a hearing of the the House Ways and Means subcommittee on oversight -- which he chairs -- on the topic of “Legislative Proposals and Tax Law Related to Presidential and Vice-Presidential Tax Returns."

"Democrats have invited Noah Bookbinder, executive director of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington; Steven M. Rosenthal of the Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center; Joseph J. Thorndike of the nonprofit publisher Tax Analysts; and George K. Yin, a University of Virginia law professor and former senior aide to the Joint Committee on Taxation," The Washington Postreported Thursday. "Republicans could invite additional witnesses."

Under an obscure, 100-year-old law, the chair of the Ways and Means committee to examine any individual's tax returns.

Ways and Means Committee Chair Richard Neal has said he intends to obtain Trump's taxes.

Trump infamously refused to release his tax returns before the 2016 election.

In October, The New York Times published a bombshell investigative report -- based on 100,000 pages of documents -- that detailed "outright fraud" by the Trump family.

Trump could be facing tens of millions in back taxes and fines.
