VA assistant secretary begged Congress to publicly demand his boss's resignation: report

The assistant secretary for public affairs at the Veteran's Administration has lobbied lawmakers to publicly demand his boss's resignation, USA Todayreported Wednesday.

Assistant Secretary John Ullyot reportedly asked a senior aide working for the House Committee on Veterans Affairs to convince lawmakers to call upon the White House to oust VA Secretary David Shulkin.

The move reportedly came one day after the Inspector General found "serious derelictions" in Shulkin's taxpayer-funded European vacation.

Ullyot, who is tasked with publicly defending the agency, allegedly made the request during a conference call initiated by VA Press Secretary Curt Cashour.

Prior to joining the VA, Cashour worked for the Republican veterans' committee in the House. Ullyot had worked on Trump's campaign.

"That simply never happened, and the allegation is ridiculous," Ullyot and Cashour claimed in a statement.
