The View's Sunny Hostin fact-checks Meghan McCain on Florida election supervisor: That's 'a little bit dishonest'

"The View" co-host Sunny Hostin called out Meghan McCain for casting suspicion on a Florida election official targeted by Republicans.

President Donald Trump has demanded a halt to vote counting in Florida, where the U.S. Senate and gubernatorial races remain up in the air, and the conservative McCain suggested that Broward County's supervisor of elections had a history of wrongdoing.

"Every vote should, 100 percent, take the time to be counted, obviously, but," McCain said, "Brenda Snipes is the woman in charge, supervisor in Broward County, which is where a lot of this has been going on. She illegally destroyed physical ballots for a 2016 race, 21 months after a medical marijuana amendment was just completely left off the ballot in 2016. This specific county has had a lot of controversy in its background, and seems to be always sort of the stem of a lot of problems."

Co-host Joy Behar said Snipes, who has been re-elected four times since her 2003 appointment by former Gov. Jeb Bush, should be fired -- but Hostin fact-checked McCain's claims.

"I think on the Republican side, you're hearing so much about this woman, Brenda Snipes, and the bottom line is, she did destroy the ballots, but it was 12 months after the election," Hostin said. "It's not like it changed the election."

A judge ruled earlier this year that Snipes' office had broken the law in 2016 by destroying ballots, which must be preserved for 22 months, and her office left a medical marijuana referendum off some ballots that same year -- which Hostin agreed was troublesome.

"That does bother me," she said. "But the suggestion that Broward County, which does largely skew Democratic, is the problem, I think is a little bit dishonest."
