Comedian Amy Schumer weighed in on Congress' inaction on gun legislation despite the biggest mass shooting in recent American history last week that killed 49 and wounded 53 in Orlando.
Schumer has a personal connection to the issue. Last year, a gunman opened fire at a screening of her film Trainwreck, killing two women in Louisiana.
"I am sickened by the cowardice of these people who are supposed to lead us," Schumer told Politico. "Their dedication seems to be only to dollar signs for their own pockets. In November, we will remember who stood with the gun lobby, rather than their constituents, as we mourned for Orlando."
Schumer is not only known for her stand-up acts, but also for sketch comedy -- where she has taken on the gun lobby in the past. In a recent sketch, called "Gun Lawyer," an attorney talks about how he can't even sue on behalf of victims of gun violence because American laws are so skewed to favor the gun industry.
"Hi, I’m Toby Shrak of the law firm of Shrak & Murphy, but don’t call me, because there’s nothing I can do," the lawyer, played by Jon Benjamin, says. "For over 20 years, my brother and I fought for our clients, victims of car accidents, medical malpractice, workplace harassment, lead poisoning, asbestos harassment."
Turns out Shrak's brother was killed in a mall shooting. The sketch then shows others who were left disabled by mass shooters who are unable to sue because of pro-gun laws. In a cruel twist, a man playing a school shooter says he was able to sue because he slipped and fell while carrying out the shooting.
