CNN host Jake Tapper put Vice President-elect Mike Pence on the spot Tuesday afternoon, hitting him hard for ducking questions over the employment of the conspiracy-mongering son of Lieutenant General Flynn on the Trump transition team.
While the Trump team earlier dismissed Michael G. Flynn's contacts with the group tasked with overseeing president-elect's creation of a functioning administration, Pence admitted he himself was incorrect earlier in the day.
“I said this morning that his son had no involvement in the transition, but I have talked to General Flynn,” Pence said. “His son was helping him a bit with scheduling and administrative items. But that’s no longer the case.”
Noting the younger Flynn's involvement in pushing demonstrably false conspiracy theories -- including the so-called 'pizzagate" pedophilia ring being run out of a D.C. area pizzeria -- Tapper lectured Pence on the vetting of transition team members.
“You must be aware that the transition team put in for a security clearance for Michael G. Flynn, the son of Lieutenant General Flynn,” Tapper pressed.
Pence said the younger Flynn was only helping his father with scheduling, before adding it was time to "move on."
Tapper wasn't having it.
"Sorry, you’re not answering the question,” Tapper said. “You aware that the transition team had put in for a security clearance. This is a young man who had a social media profile with all sorts of crazy conspiracy theories, all sorts of links and retweets with white supremacists. Were you aware that the transition team put in for a security clearance for him?”
Pence once again ducked the question, citing it as an internal matter of allowing the younger Flynn to work on scheduling.
