Watch: Democrat berates Mike Pompeo on the idiocy of White House threatening North Korea with 'Libya model'

On Thursday, citing the 'open hostility' of the North Korean regime, President Donald Trump cancelled the June 12th summit. Appearing before the Senate Foreign Relations committee, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo defended the administration's decision.

Sen. Edward Markey (D-Massachusetts) observed that the hostility emanating from Pyongyang was hardly a surprise, given recent statements by National Security Advisor John Bolton citing the 'Libya' or 'Gadaffi' model. Mike Pence also warned Kim Jong Un that he might share Muammar Gaddafi's fate.

"How did you expect North Korea to react?" Markey demanded to know. "Why would you expect anything but anger or hostility?"

Pompeo tried to argue that Bolton had been referring to negotiations with Libya that occurred in 2003 and 2004, but Markey was not convinced.

"Everyone—but this White House—understands that [the leader] ends up dead," Markey concluded.
