WATCH: Even Fox News is calling out Trump for his blatant lie about 'not knowing' Matt Whitaker
November 09, 2018
President Trump's lies about whether or not he knew Matt Whitaker before appointing him interim attorney general are so obvious, even John Roberts of Fox News is calling him out on it.
Roberts noted that Trump is "taking a tremendous amounted of criticism" for Whitaker's appointment given his strong public comments of the Mueller investigation, and suggested the president is distancing himself from the controversial appointment.
"On the south lawn today, on his way to the helicopter to come here to Paris, the president standing behind Whitaker but also suggesting that he didn't know much about him before he appointed him," Roberts said, teeing up a clip of the president claiming today, "I don't know Matt Whitaker."
"That would seem to contradict something the president told "Fox and Friends" back in October," Roberts added, rolling a clip of the president saying, "Matt Whitaker is a great guy. I know Matt Whitaker."
"The president," said Roberts, "seemed to suggest he knew him a little better than he let on this morning."
