WATCH: GOP senator says Trump should fire Rudy Giuliani for telling him he can pardon himself

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) does not seem to be particularly impressed with Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani's declaration that the president has the power to pardon himself if he's found guilty of any crimes.

Speaking with CNN's Manu Raju outside the Capitol on Monday, Grassley said that, "if I were President of the United States and I had a lawyer that said I could pardon myself, I think I would hire a new lawyer."

Giuliani on Sunday said that President Donald Trump "probably" has the power to pardon himself, although he said at the time that he didn't believe Trump would do so. Additionally, Giuliani said that Trump could have killed former FBI Director James Comey and he still wouldn't be indicted for murder.

Trump on Monday morning picked up on Giuliani's argument and claimed the "absolute right to pardon myself," although he again said he wouldn't do so on the basis that no one has yet proven he committed any crimes.
