WATCH: Kirstjen Nielsen gets chased out of Mexican restaurant by DSA activists

On Tuesday, Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen tried to enjoy some fine Mexican dining. It didn't go as planned.

According to witnesses, the secretary was driven out of a restaurant by members of the Democratic Socialists of America.

The Metro DC DSA posted a statement to Facebook.

"We’re in downtown DC disrupting DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen’s dinner at MXDC," they wrote. "The irony isn’t lost on us that this is a Mexican restaurant."

Nielsen's aborted dinner plans occurred the same day that President Donald Trump reportedly told Republicans that ripping children from their parents and putting them in cages was not making the GOP look good.

Prominent Republicans like Jeb Bush have denounced the practice, but others in the GOP leadership have largely avoided the issue.

Immigration experts say the administration's zero tolerance policy towards migrants is inhumane and pointless.

"Separating 3-year-olds from their parents at the border is not the way to stop the MS-13 gang," Stephen Yale-Loehr, Professor of Immigration Law Practice at Cornell Law School, tells Raw Story.

"The real problem is these countries in Central America are suffering such horrendous violence that people are forced to flee. "
