WATCH: Trump makes fun of Chris Christie to his face for being 'absentee' governor

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) came under more criticism on Monday for choosing not to attend a state trooper's funeral in order to campaign with Donald Trump -- and then get mocked during the event.

As the Weekly Standard reported, Christie joined the Republican front-runner at a rally in Vienna, Ohio, where Trump used him as the punchline in a joke regarding Ohio Gov. John Kasich.

"Your governor is absentee," Trump said. "I know, 'cause I was there. But I go back and I still work, you know. I have a job, right? So, your Governor Kasich, if you look at him -- and I'm being totally impartial -- he goes to New Hampshire, he's living in New Hampshire."

Trump then looked for Christie before saying Kasich was campaigning there, "even more than Chris Christie, he was there."

The real estate mogul then turns to Christie and said, "I hated to do that, but I had to make my point."

Christie -- who was ridiculed online earlier this month after his appearance at another Trump event -- was already the subject of negative coverage earlier in the day for choosing to appear with Trump instead of attending the funeral of 31-year-old Sean Cullen, who died last week after being hit by a passing vehicle while responding to a car fire.

"We are focused on honoring our fallen brother today and quite frankly we did not expect someone who has consistently shown disdain for law enforcement to pay his respects to the Cullen and State Police family," said Christopher Burgos of the State Troopers Fraternal Association, the union that represents Cullen and his colleagues.
