White people are much more likely to assault black people and Latinos than the other way around: study

A study of interracial crime statistics has found that white people are far more likely to assault black people in the Los Angeles area than the other way around.

The Crime Report published by the John Jay College's Center on Media and Justice, reported Friday that an upcoming study by the International Review of Law and Economics analyzed "face to face" crime statistics — and found whites are 13 percent more likely to assault minorities.

"Whites were roughly 13 percent more likely to assault African Americans and Hispanics," the report noted, adding that the IRLE review also found that "Whites were approximately 0.5 percent more likely to use weapons against them than those two ethnic groups are likely to use weapons against Whites."

Focusing on homicides, robberies, assaults and weapon use in part on Los Angeles crime statistics from 2000-2007, the IRLE noted that neighborhood also plays a role in their findings.

"Blacks/Hispanics assault and use weapons against Whites more often than Whites assault and use weapons against Blacks/Hispanics," the study's authors wrote, "but these relationships flip once we control for neighborhood and time effects in a panel data setting."

"We observe this pattern of violence committed by White individuals across almost all types of neighborhoods in Los Angeles County, and the pattern is stronger in neighborhoods that are wealthier and have a greater population density of White individuals," the writers continued.

The study is set to be released in December 2018.
