'That was wrong' -- Rapper Killer Mike backtracks on NRA support, says he now supports March For Our Lives

Killer Mike of Run The Jewels has been increasingly outspoken on politics over the past two years.

In the 2016 election, he supported Bernie Sanders. And after Sanders lost the Democratic primary, he discouraged liberal voters from supporting Hillary Clinton, telling fans that "If you’re voting for Trump or Hillary Clinton, you’re voting for the same thing."

The rapper, whose given name is Michael Render, opposes gun control.

Because of that, he's run into controversy over the past few weeks. For example, Render threatened to throw his kids out of the house if they participated in the National School Walkout.

"I told my kids on the school walkout: ‘I love you. If you walk out that school, walk out my house,'" he said. "We are a gun-owning family."

Things came to a head after NRA.TV aired a propaganda video he recorded for the group on the day of #MarchForOurLives.

Render's explosive interview with the NRA included him attacking kids who grow up in an "everybody gets a trophy" society and opposing anti-bullying campaigns because, "your child needs to get punched in the face so he can learn to punch someone back."

The host who interviewed Render also mocked "Malcom in the Middle's David Hogg," both attacking a survivor of a mass shooting and echoing conspiracy theorists who accused the Parkland survivors as being "crisis actors."

Render has gotten clap-backs from people who are normally allies, including fellow Bernie-supporter Shaun King and even some subtle shade from his bandmate, El-P.

Now, Render has issued an apology on Instagram.

"Guys, I'm sorry," he said. "I'm sorry that an interview I did was used as a weapon against you guys. That was unfair to you and that was wrong."

"Now, as your ally—and I am your ally, young people," he says. "I am an ally and friend to you always."
