Trump could still be hit with a 'whopper of a tax bill' if his assets are ordered sold off

According to a report on what the future holds for Donald Trump should Judge Arthur Engoron strip his companies of their business certificates, a former prosecutor claimed that he would face a sell-off of his business by a court-appointed receiver with the possible addition of a major tax liability tacked on.

As Politico's Erica Orden reported, the former president has already been found guilty by the Manhattan judge of financial fraud in the $250 million civil suit filed by New York Attorney General Letitia James.

The ongoing proceedings, which started up again on Monday are designed to provide Engoron with more information, allowing him to assess the amount of financial penalties the former president and his Trump Organization will be liable for.

According to the report, Trump and his family will likely appeal Engoron's eventual ruling which would allow them to delay paying up immediately, with the exception of posting an appeal bond comprised of money held until after the appeal bid is resolved.

Then there is the issue of yanking the business certificates, with Engoron having already appointed a receiver to take over if it reaches that point.

According to former Manhattan prosecutor Diana Florence, "It literally means the company is dead, and once a company is dead, they can’t take their stuff with them.”

That "stuff" would include Trump Tower, 40 Wall Street, Trump International Hotel and the shuttering of the Trump Organization.

According to Florence, those assets would then be sold off and the proceeds used to pay the judgment and any outstanding receivables, with the leftover cash going to the former president.

However, as Florence explained, if most of those proceeds end up in the former president's pocket, additional penalties await him, with Florence stating, "He’s going to be hit with a whopper of a tax bill.”

Eric Trump's desk was piled high with unsigned Trump Organization checks: witness

Eric Trump had a “very high” pile of unsigned checks that sat on his desk under the Trump Organization’s since-updated bookkeeping system, a company executive reportedly testified.

Mark Hawthorn described a 2021 encounter with the former president's son during the $250 million civil fraud trial against Donald Trump and his two sons on Monday. They have already been found liable of defrauding lenders by inflating the value of Trump Organization assets.

Trump's 'America sucks' Thanksgiving weekend meltdown torn apart by Morning Joe panel

Led by co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mike Brzezinski, MSNBC's "Morning Joe" panel on Monday ripped into Donald Trump for his 2 AM Thanksgiving morning rage-post on Truth Social, which was followed by a holiday weekend of more angry diatribes on the social media platform.

The segment kicked off with the two hosts alternately reading segments of the post that began, "Happy Thanksgiving to ALL, including the Racist & Incompetent Attorney General of New York State, Letitia 'Peekaboo' James, who has let Murder & Violent Crime FLOURISH, & Businesses FLEE; the Radical Left Trump Hating Judge, a 'Psycho,' Arthur Engoron, who Criminally Defrauded the State of New York, & ME, by purposely Valuing my Assets at a “tiny” Fraction of what they are really worth in order to convict me of Fraud before even a Trial," before the former president concluded with raging at, "all of the other Radical Left Lunatics, Communists, Fascists, Marxists, Democrats, & RINOS, who are seriously looking to DESTROY OUR COUNTRY. Have no fear, however, we will WIN the Presidential Election of 2024, & MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!"

Noting the four-times indicted president's post wasn't exactly in the Thanksgiving spirit, host Scarborough summed it and other posts throughout the weekend as Trump stating unequivocally "America sucks."

"Talk about how sick it is to say that America is a rotten nation before you were president of the United States, American carnage, and then you become president of the United States and America has four of the most tumultuous years later, and the second he leaves and is blamed by the American people, he goes back to saying that America sucks again," said Scarborough. "How grotesque that Donald Trump only thinks America is great when Donald Trump is president."

"Yeah, because he doesn't care about America nearly as much as he cares about himself," replied former Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO).

'He wants the gag order': Analyst explains Trump's surprising motive in fraud case

Donald Trump has been fighting multiple gag orders, but the former president actually wants them to remain in place and will do everything in his power to make sure that's the case, a political analyst said on Saturday.

Florida pollster and political analyst Fernand Amandi appeared on MSNBC's American Voices with Alicia Menendez, where he was asked about the "direct line" drawn from Trump's comments "to the way his supporters and fans come out to harass public people." Specifically, the host asked Amandi about Trump's claim that the New York gag order could actually harm his presidential bid.

'Tired and laughable' Trump bid to avoid violent threat blame buried by legal expert

Responding to a Donald Trump Thanksgiving diatribe aimed at Judge Arthur Engoron, New York Attorney General Letitia James and courthouse employees, former U.S. Attorney Joyce Vance called the former president and his lawyers' claims that he can't be held responsible for their lives being threatened "laughable."

On her "Civil Discourse" Substack platform, Vance wrote that the Department of Justice had every justification to make a Thanksgiving filing imploring the Court of Appeals in the District of Columbia to intercede as the threats that follow Trump's Truth Social ranting increase and become more threatening— in particular the ones aimed at Engoron principal law clerk Alison Greenfield.

First writing, "Around half of the 20-30 calls per day to the law clerk’s personal cell phone and 30-50 messages daily on social media platforms and personal email addresses are antisemitic," the former prosecutor wrote, "it’s Trump’s targeting of Judge Engoron’s law clerk that tell us the most about what the country has to fear if Trump regains power."

After noting that the threats to Greenfield resulted in "275 single spaced pages to transcribe all of them," in the filing, Vance wrote, "This is a deliberate attack on a blameless private citizen, made by Trump in order to advance his own agenda."

"Someone who feels safe and anonymous today could be the recipient of Trump’s ire tomorrow simply because they’re in the wrong place at the wrong time and he needs a victim to distract from whatever trouble he is in at the moment," she predicted before adding, "Trump filed a response today, insinuating that he is not to blame for what other people do."

"But that is a tired and laughable effort to shirk blame at this point. Even if Trump might have argued, years ago, that he was unaware of the effect his words had on his followers, that time is long past," she continued. "Trump continues to be a danger to us. Anyone who doesn’t understand that they or someone they love, their children or grandchildren, could be the next one subjected to the treatment Judge Engoron’s law clerk is receiving, or that Fulton County election workers Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss were subjected to, isn’t paying attention."

Judges 'are beyond' Trump lawyers' latest 'nonsensical claim': former prosecutor

Appearing on MSNBC on Thanksgiving weekend, former federal prosecutor Glenn Kirschner stated that judges are getting fed up with assertions made by lawyers for Donald Trump trying to forestall gag orders that would bar him from launching attacks on prosecutors, judges and courthouse employees.

Speaking with host Katie Phang about a new motion made over Thanksgiving by the Department of Justice to rein in the former president, Kirschner claimed the arguments made by Trump's lawyers that he can't be held responsible for violent threats aimed at his targets by his supporters isn't going to fly with judges much longer.

"I sat through the argument earlier this week in the D.C. Court of Appeals case, regarding the constitutionality of the gag order and there was discussion about what was going on in other jurisdictions," Kirschner explained. "Similarly, Judge [Tanya] Chutkan was presiding over the trial in Donald Trump's case, has regularly talked about what's going on in other jurisdictions."

"So I think this evidence will probably be accepted by the appellate court and Donald Trump's lawyers, as recently as yesterday, filed their reply and they continue to ask the judges to just check your common sense at the door," he continued. "You don't need to bring it with you to bear on this issue. One thing stood out about the letter that Trump's team filed yesterday; they say, again, Mr. Trump did not directly threaten [Judge Arthur Engoron clerk] Miss Greenfield. That is the broken peg on which they continue to try to hang their legal argument."

"The good news, Katie, is in court on Monday, Judge Patricia Millett directly knocked that down," he elaborated, "She said, and I quote, 'there is a clear pattern here.' Donald Trump issued a statement, and witnesses get threatened. So, I think the judges are beyond this nonsensical claim that Donald Trump just says things that are hyper-critical of the witnesses who are expected to testify against them, and he should bear no sort of consequences when his supporters instantly rise to his call and begin intimidating, threatening, and harassing the witnesses."

"Happy Thanksgiving to ALL, including the Racist & Incompetent Attorney General of New York State, Letitia 'Peekaboo' James, who has let Murder & Violent Crime FLOURISH, & Businesses FLEE; the Radical Left Trump Hating Judge, a 'Psycho,' Arthur Engoron, who Criminally Defrauded the State of New York, & ME, by purposely Valuing my Assets at a 'tiny' Fraction of what they are really worth in order to convict me of Fraud before even a Trial, or seeing any PROOF, & used his Politically Biased & Corrupt Campaign Finance Violator, Chief Clerk Alison Greenfield, to sit by his side on the 'Bench' & tell him what to do; & Crooked Joe Biden, who has WEAPONIZED his Department of Injustice against his Political Opponent, & allowed our Country to go to HELL; & all of the other Radical Left Lunatics, Communists, Fascists, Marxists, Democrats, & RINOS, who are seriously looking to DESTROY OUR COUNTRY," the former president posted.
