NRA slashed spending on federal lobbying amid legal troubles

Following years of legal setbacks, internal strife and declining revenue, the National Rifle Association reported spending $540,000 in federal lobbying spending during the first quarter of 2024 — the least amount of money the group has spent at the start of a year since 2009, according to lobbying disclosures reviewed by OpenSecrets. Last year, the preeminent gun rights group spent $2.3 million, a near-record low.

Trial of Joe Biden's son set to begin

WILMINGTON, Del. — Joe Biden's son Hunter goes on trial Monday on gun charges, the first prosecution in U.S. history for the child of a sitting president — just as the Democratic leader is seeking to accelerate his campaign for reelection.

The 54-year-old denies three felony counts stemming from his purchase of a .38-caliber Colt Cobra revolver in 2018 when, by his own admission, he was heavily addicted to drugs.

Florida teens tied to ‘2119’ neo-Nazi gang to plead guilty for antisemitic attacks

Three teenagers associated with the neo-Nazi gang 2119 have agreed to plead guilty to felony hate crime charges related to an antisemitic vandalism spree last summer that included attacks on two synagogues and a mosque in Pensacola, Fla.

Lawyers for the three defendants appeared in court this morning and indicated their clients would plead guilty to the charges, Assistant State Attorney Andrew McGraw told Raw Story.

Far-right Youtube influencer Brandon Herrera is set to face-off against incumbent U.S. Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX) in a primary race Tuesday. The Daily Beast reported in March that "'a Trumpworld source' said Herrera would be 'a disaster for Republicans' if elected."

CNN's Bolduan ends Uvalde interview in tears on anniversary of school mass murder

An interview with the uncle of one of the victims of the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas ended with CNN host Kate Bolduan in tears on Friday morning.

On the two-year anniversary of the murderous rampage by 18-year-old Salvador Ramos that left 17 students dead while police waited outside the classrooms for more than 70 minutes, Bolduan spoke with Jesse Rizo who lost his niece Jackie Cazaraes who, the CNN host pointed out, would have been graduating from sixth grade this month.

Prosecutor sets stage for explosive Hunter Biden trial with ex-wife and ex-girlfriends

Federal prosecutors this week outlined some of the evidence they will use against Hunter Biden, son of the U.S. president, in a case alleging he made false statements and was addicted to drugs when he purchased a gun in 2018.

According to court documents filed on May 20, 2024, by Special Counsel David C. Weiss, Biden allegedly lied on a federal form while buying a gun in 2018, claiming he was not an unlawful drug user. However, prosecutors assert that Biden was actively using crack cocaine at the time.

Mass shooting survivor fired from his job reaches apparent settlement

HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. — A man who says he experienced post-traumatic stress disorder following a mass shooting he witnessed on the job appears to have settled with his former local government employer, Raw Story exclusively learned.

Four of the five commissioners for the Park District of Highland Park voted Wednesday evening to approve a settlement agreement with an unidentified former employee. One commissioner left the meeting before the vote.

‘Blood on your hands’: Tennessee Republicans OK arming teachers after school shooting

Republicans in the Tennessee House passed legislation Tuesday afternoon allowing teachers to carry concealed weapons in classrooms across the state, thirteen months after a 28-year old shooter slaughtered three children and three adults at a Christian elementary school in Nashville.

The measure is reportedly not popular statewide, with Democrats, teachers, and parents from the school, Covenant Elementary, largely opposed. The Republican Speaker of the House, Cameron Sexton, at one point literally shut down debate on the bill by shutting off a Democratic lawmaker's microphone and then smiling.
