'Dude...': Conservative commentator gets brutal reminder of past comments one year later
A right-wing radio host got hit with a flurry of reminders on Sunday about his past comments about Donald Trump and the Jan. 6 riot.
Conservative media personality Erick Erickson, the founder of Red State, is no stranger to internet pile ons.
On Sunday, Erickson wrote on his social media, "Happy January 6 Eve, everyone. NPR has undoubtedly been waiting like a kid who wants something special for Christmas."

But Erickson's attitude toward Jan. 6 wasn't always so cavalier -- a fact of which onlookers on X were happy to remind him.
Most people pointed out that, on Jan. 6, 2021, during the riot, Erickson tweeted, "Shoot the protestors."
"Waive the rules, impeach. Waive the rules, convict," he wrote at the time, adding, "Waive the rules, deny the ability to run for election again."
Alex Johnson, formerly associated with the conservative anti-Trump group known as the Lincoln Project, replied with, "Hey Erick, remember this?" along with a different quote from Erickson after the infamous attack: "This was insurrectionist, and it was inspired by the President of the United States."
Issac Bailey, a Professor of the Practice in Communication Studies at Davidson College, simply said, "Dude..." along with a screenshot of Erickson recommending "shoot the protesters."
Reporter Joel Delgado wrote, "You’re better than this, Erick."
Bloomberg columnist Matthew Yglesias also chimed in, saying, "I think it's understandable that conservatives generally voted for Trump, the conservative candidate, over Kamala Harris."
"But it drives me crazy how many them *knew at the time* how bad January 6 was, only to turn around years later and act like only crazy libs would say this," he added. Yglesias included a screen grab of Erickson's comments about shooting the protesters.
