'Remarkably craven': Former Trump official hammers GOP for caving to him again

Former Donald Trump White House communications official Alyssa Farah Griffin tore into Republicans in Congress on CNN Tuesday for immediately lining up against the immigration and foreign aid deal they helped negotiate as Trump whipped opposition to it solely so that there could be an unsolved crisis he could run on in the election.

The deal, which now faces slim odds of passing, would create new requirements to shut down border crossings, tighten asylum requirements, and expedite removals of migrants, in return for lifting visa caps and giving legal counsel to unaccompanied child migrants.

'Hell no': Trump allies' plan to privatize Medicare draws alarm and outrage

A right-wing coalition that's been laying the policy groundwork for another Trump presidency has developed a plan to further privatize Medicare by making fraud-riddled Medicare Advantage "the default enrollment option" for newly eligible beneficiaries.

The plan, highlighted Monday by Rolling Stone's Andrew Perez, is outlined about halfway through Project 2025's 920-page playbook for the first six months of a conservative presidency.

Speaker Johnson’s latest move adds to his conflicting quagmire of border positions

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson currently holds several conflicting positions on addressing the U.S. southern border, not to mention sending funds to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan – which he has insisted be linked together. He's now created an even more confusing quagmire exacerbated by a joint statement released Monday afternoon by his House Republican leadership team.

In their latest shot across the bow to the U.S. Senate, Speaker Johnson and his leadership team declared the just-released Senate immigration and border security funding bill, which includes critical aid to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan, "DEAD on arrival."

Maxwell Frost is Biden's Gen Z super weapon — and occasional critic

WASHINGTON – Maxwell Frost has not been shy about criticizing Joe Biden’s administration – from climate change to border policy to Israel’s war in Gaza.

But the nation’s first Gen Z congressman has nevertheless seen his profile inside the Democratic Party rise. And despite Frost’s concerns, the 27-year-old Floridian is becoming an increasingly essential surrogate for the 81-year-old Biden.

Pro-Trump Border Patrol union tells GOP to pass Senate border bill ex-president opposes

In a major blow to House Republicans, some far-right Senate Republicans, and Donald Trump, the labor union representing U.S. Border Patrol agents and staff on Monday endorsed the Senate border bill, saying it "will drop illegal border crossings nationwide."

The entire House Republican leadership team in a statement Monday called the Senate bill "DEAD on arrival." The legislation, seen as the "harshest" immigration bill in decades, also provides billions for defense in Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan.

How Democrats can use Republicans' own border security failure against them: MSNBC's Reid

Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) agreed to kill the GOP's own border security bill on Monday evening, just three hours after coming out with emphatic support for it.

McConnell spoke to the press in support, but when speaking to his caucus, he caved in to pressure from the MAGA wing of the GOP to stop the bill, so Joe Biden wouldn't have a "win" on the issue. It's the closest the Senate has come to an actual deal on immigration in nearly two decades.

Mitch McConnell lobbies against border bill — 3 hours after speaking in support of it

In a stunning reversal, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is urging the Senate G.O.P. caucus to vote against the bipartisan border security and foreign defense aid package. It comes after spending weeks helping a bipartisan group of senators craft it, and just hours after he spoke in favor of the legislation.

The development was reported by Punchbowl News' Jake Sherman, who said McConnell's announcement came in a closed-door Republican strategy session with his colleagues.

Republican caught in bait-and-switch live on House floor

Rep. Mark Green (R-TN) was busted by his colleague Rep. Joe Neguse (D-CO) as he tried to defend the impeachment process against President Joe Biden — using his own words from five years ago when the shoe was on the other foot.

"Chairman Green, I have an editorial here that I want to enter into the record," said Neguse. "The title is, 'Americans are the victims of the impeachment inquiry.' It's an opinion piece. The subtitle is, 'A lot of bipartisan legislation that enjoys widespread support sits gathering dust while Congress focuses on the impeachment inquiry.' I assume you disagree with this?"

Ron DeSantis' 'sledgehammer' debate memo leaker outed: report

When a document surfaced over late summer foreshadowing Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' GOP primary debate strategy in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, its origin had been anonymous.

The document told DeSantis “to take a sledgehammer” to rival Vivek Ramaswamy and make sure to "defend Donald Trump" when he's cut down by former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and repeatedly "attack Biden and the media."
