Racism, fascism and cruelty: Donald Trump’s New Hampshire performance in nine quotes

Even by the standards of Donald Trump, the former president spent the past week in New Hampshire unloading extreme rhetoric against Nikki Haley.

Republicans moving to vote in the New Hampshire primary, where former President Donald Trump is hoping to knock off his remaining competition in former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, have strikingly moderate policy positions, according to exit polls — and it left a CNN panel stunned.

In particular, they argued, these numbers could be an ominous sign for Trump's chances in a general election — even if he pulls through in New Hampshire tonight.

Ron DeSantis' hometown paper dreads three more years of 'wounded, grudge-bearing governor'

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, following a disastrous campaign and a weak second-place showing in Iowa, ended his presidential ambitions this month — a rapid fall for a figure once considered a rising GOP star and potential post-Trump savior. And the Miami Herald editorial board fears that Floridians will face the brunt of DeSantis' anger over his humiliation for the next three years.

DeSantis' change in tone was evident, the board wrote, from the second he announced he would veto a proposed GOP bill that would establish a state defense fund awarding up to $5 million to former President Donald Trump to pay his legal expenses.

'Absolutely hate him': Analysts find 'whole swath' of Republicans will 'never' vote Trump

In 2020, a long list of well-known conservatives endorsed Democrat Joe Biden for president, including former Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ), GOP activist Cindy McCain, attorney George Conway and former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina.

And four years later, with Donald Trump seemingly on track to win the 2024 GOP presidential nomination, Biden's reelection campaign is hoping that anti-Trump conservatives will again be part of his coalition.

'I don't want losers': GOP gov fears Trump nomination will doom  party's down-ballot races

Although New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu — who is supporting Nikki Haley for president — isn't a full-fledged Never Trump conservative, the Republican governor has been highly critical of 2024 GOP frontrunner at times.

Sununu, at the 2023 Texas Tribune Festival in Austin, remarked, "Trump's too dumb to be a danger to democracy. Let's not give him that much credit." And Sununu believes that Haley would be much more competitive than Trump in the general election.

‘Losingest loser’: Journalists say ‘Trump’s in big trouble’

Journalists are starting to notice warning signs for the Trump 2024 presidential campaign, and it's not that 100% of the GOP primary vote in New Hampshire's Dixville Notch, a small village that for decades has been casting its ballots at midnight, went to Nikki Haley.

Nor is it the repeated confused and incorrect comments the ex-president has been making at rallies – something the Biden camp has been relentlessly promoting, as MSNBC's Joe Scarborough reported Tuesday morning.
