'Who needs Pravda?': CNN's Tapper hammers Trump over his 'stunning' new Putin praise

Reacting to Donald Trump admiringly quoting Russian strongman Vladimir Putin to a New Hampshire crowd on Saturday, CNN's Jake Tapper dryly asked, "Who needs Pravda?" before launching into a scathing attack on the former president on Sunday morning.

Saturday Trump told rallygoers, "Joe Biden is a threat to democracy. He’s a threat. Even Vladimir Putin … says that Biden’s — and this is a quote – ‘politically motivated persecution of his political rival is very good for Russia because it shows the rottenness of the American political system, which cannot pretend to teach others about democracy.’”

Before taking up the former president's comments with his "State of the Union" panel, Tapper had a few things to say about the Republican 2024 presidential nominee frontrunner.

"You have Donald Trump repeating Russian propaganda, Trump citing Vladimir Putin," he began. "I mean, I'm sorry, but that is just empirically stunning."

"For any major presidential candidate to be quoting approvingly Vladimir Putin smearing American democracy. I don't care if it is Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump, it is absolutely stunning," he added.

Dem lawmaker puts House Republicans on notice about her plan to derail Biden impeachment

Appearing on MSNBC early Sunday morning, Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) put the Republican House leadership on notice that she is not going to sit idly by as the GOP caucus pursues an impeachment hearing against President Joe Biden.

Speaking with host Jonathan Capehart, the Texas Democrat claimed she plans to drag Donald Trump into the hearings while also making a vague threat that some of her GOP colleagues will become targets too.

"As a member of the Oversight and Accountability Committee, what role do you expect to play in this impeachment inquiry process?" the MSNBC host pressed her.

House Republicans warned they've trapped themselves by pursuing Biden impeachment

According to former Rep. Charlie Dent (R-PA), the current Republican House leadership has made a critical mistake by giving the go-ahead to an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden that will likely end badly for them.

In a column for MSNBC, the former Republican lawmaker said he sees no legitimate case to hold impeachment hearings, there is no indication that every House Republican will vote to send it to the Senate and there is no way he sees the Democratic-controlled Senate allow it to succeed.

According to Dent, the House GOP caucus is now caught in a trap of its own making with no way to call it off without looking ridiculous.

After writing, "thus far, the GOP has failed to prove its case," he added, "the GOP has launched its rocket, and there will be no recalling it. House Republicans will at least have to attempt to impeach. And that attempt will likely drag this whole process out into the primary — and Trump trial season — further muddying the political waters."

According to Dent, there is no guarantee every House Republican will "see this through," while adding that, with a slim majority, "there is no margin for error."

Pointing out that some members of the GOP caucus may not vote for impeachment, he added, "Would Johnson ask his members to vote for an impeachment resolution that might not pass the House? Even if a resolution did pass the House, the Senate will never convict with these facts (we hope)."

"That means, ultimately, GOP members representing Biden-won districts are most likely to determine the final outcome of impeachment. Right now, it’s hard to imagine any scenario where impeachment works to their benefit," he added.

Putin says Russia has 'no interest' in invading NATO countries

Russian President Vladimir Putin has dismissed Western concerns that his country could attack a NATO member state as "utter nonsense," in a interview with Russian state television published on Sunday. Asked whether Russia, which has been waging a war against Ukraine, could potentially also invade a NATO country, Putin accused US President Joe Biden of making warnings like this to distract from his own mistakes in his Russia policy. Biden himself understood that "Russia has no reason, no interest - geopolitically, economically or militarily - to fight with NATO countries," Putin said. "We have ...

Donald Trump could have just set the stage for another election defeat, as he says the 2024 race is "ALREADY ON ITS WAY TO BEING ANOTHER RIGGED ELECTION!"

'Let's do it then': MSNBC host shuts down GOPer after he calls her a 'Democrat operative'

Tim Burchett (R-TN), who had voted to oust fellow Republican Kevin McCarthy as House speaker, was cornered on MSNBC's Symone after he was unable to recite evidence warranting an inquiry into a President Joe Biden impeachment.

The host asked Burchett why he voted in favor of a Biden impeachment inquiry, and he responded by stating various alleged crimes attributable to the president's son, Hunter Biden. When asked about specific facts linking the elder Biden to these crimes, Burchett had no direct answers, instead continuing to list payments made to or from Hunter.

Viral screenshots of Trump supposedly blaming Biden for lemonade-related deaths are fake

On Friday, screenshots of former President Donald Trump supposedly saying President Joe Biden is to blame for the recent spate of deaths of people who drank Panera's charged lemonade quickly spread on social media. However, those screenshots have been proven to be the work of comedian Keaton Patti, who is a writer for Jimmy Kimmel Live and The Onion.

The four screenshots initially tweeted by Patti show the 45th president of the United States giving a campaign speech in Coralville, Iowa, with text below each image. The first screenshot reads: "Everything is bad under Biden. Even the lemonade is killing people. Did you see that? People drink lemonade and die."''

Arizona governor orders National Guard to the border

By Daniel Trotta (Reuters) - Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs on Friday ordered National Guard troops to the border with Mexico, saying the U.S. federal government's recent decision to close a legal port of entry in her state "has led to an unmitigated humanitarian crisis." It was a notable rebuke of President Joe Biden by a fellow Democrat as border security is shaping up to be a major issue in the 2024 presidential campaign, with Biden seeking re-election next November. "Yet again, the federal government is refusing to do its job to secure our border and keep our communities safe," Hobbs said in...

Tantrum-prone GOPer warns House not to send Senate half-baked impeachment plan

Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives have unanimously voted to formalize an impeachment inquiry against President Joe Biden, but where the inquiry will ultimately lead remains to be seen. If the House eventually votes "yes" on any possible articles of impeachment, those articles would go to the U.S. Senate for consideration.

A conviction in a Senate trial would be unlikely, as Democrats have a small Senate majority, and Senate Democrats have been attacking the impeachment inquiry as baseless and absurd.
