Kamala Harris had a game plan in taking on 'adversarial' Fox News interviewer: analyst

Vice President Kamala Harris found herself under heavy fire from the word go when she sat for an interview with Fox News host Bret Baier, who pressed her on everything from immigration to transgender rights to the economy and sought to soften Trump's threats to use the military on his political opponents when Harris broached the subject.

But while Harris knew she was in unfriendly territory going on the nation's largest right-leaning cable network, she had a very distinct plan going into it, CNN media analyst Brian Stelter said on a panel afterward.

Fox host scrambles to calm conspiracy-minded viewers sneering at Harris interview

In the days leading up to his sit-down interview with Vice President Kamala Harris to be broadcast on Wednesday, Fox New host Bret Baier is working overtime on social media asking hard core conservatives to calm down and watch the final result.

According to CNN media analyst Brian Stelter, Biaer has been actively replying to naysayers and conspiracy-minded Donald Trump supporters who fear he'll handle Harris with kid gloves.

In a thread on X, Stelter wrote the embattled Baier is "keenly aware" of dissatisfaction by MAGA supporters over giving the Democratic nominee for president a platform to spread her message.

"As soon as Baier announced his Harris sit-down, uber-skeptical commenters on this site replied with doubts and conspiracy theories. 'This interview will be as watered down as they come.' 'No doubt she already has the list of Q's.' 'I don't trust Fox and I trust Baier even less,'" the CNN analyst wrote.

Pointing to new Gallup polling that shows Fox is no longer the favored conservative network among Trump devotees, Stelter explained, Baier, "has been replying to skeptics on X, and addressing the matter on his nightly show, promising that his interview with Harris will be 'unedited' – in contrast to some of the VP's other interviews – and 'uninterrupted.'" And then adding, "The anchorman has also been responding to X users to tell them that Harris doesn't have access to his questions in advance, and 'there were no preconditions to get the interview.'"

According to Stelter, "Baier is bending over backwards to explain the basics of TV news to an audience that automatically assumes the worst. It's a sad sign of our distrusting times."
