Katie Miller’s Halloween post was meant as a romantic nod to her husband, White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller. Critics took it a different way.
“Find the Anakin in your life,” Miller wrote on X on Saturday. She posted a photo of herself and a friend dressed as Padmé Amidala, Anakin Skywalker’s wife in the “Star Wars” prequels. The post has drawn more than 560,000 views.
The problem, critics quickly pointed out, is how Anakin’s story ends. In the films, he betrays the Jedi, slaughters children, turns on his pregnant wife and becomes Darth Vader, the enforcer for a galactic dictator.
“Who’s gonna tell her,” wrote Peter Rothpletz, a writer who posts as Peter Twinklage and whose bylines include The New York Times, The New Republic and The Bulwark.
Progressive commentator Alex Cole wrote: “Anakin betrayed the Republic, slaughtered the Jedi, and pledged loyalty to a dictator. Katie Miller really said, ‘That’s my type.’”
Political commentator David Leavitt was blunter: “He murdered the women and children too.”
Katie Miller, a former Trump administration official who now hosts a podcast, is married to Stephen Miller, the architect of the administration’s mass deportation agenda. She didn't immediately respond to the post's critics.
