Former Homeland Security chief of staff Miles warned that President Donald Trump is going to invoke the Insurrection Act because he's wanted to do it for a long time, and that the U.S. Supreme Court will likely let him do it.

Speaking to MSNBC on Monday, former FBI general counsel Andrew Weissmann and ex-Justice Department official Mary McCord debated the legal challenges to whether or not Trump could invoke the Act and how it would be argued in court. But Taylor was the one who made it clear that his time in the Trump administration had shown him a deep desire to declare something a legal "insurrection" and invoke martial law.

Ethics experts are furious after Trump allies running a private investment firm promoted an event called the “Inaugural U.S. Treasury A.I. According to the Wall Street Journal, "The fund, called 1789 Capital, circulated the pitch to technology companies in recent weeks, calling the Oct. 21 event 'historic,' according to an email to potential donors and the pitch itself, a copy of which was reviewed by The Wall Street Journal. It offered an array of perks, including a VIP cocktail party and dinner, to those who paid," and was essentially sold to people as an event where Bessent would outline the Treasury Department's AI strategy.

Officials in Washington State have agreed to water down a key provision of a child abuse reporting law passed to prevent misconduct by religious clergy, under pressure from both Catholic bishops and the Trump administration, MSNBC reported on Monday.

These entities, according to Ja'han Jones, "filed lawsuits seeking to overturn a bill signed by Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson, a Democrat and a Catholic, that required faith leaders of all denominations to report allegations of abuse they received in private religious settings — including confession. Though the Catholic Church has a documented history of enabling child sexual abuse, the sponsor of Washington’s bill said the legislation was inspired by reports of abuse within Jehovah’s Witness churches."
