'Typical political rhetoric': Insiders privately dismiss GOP promise to overhaul DOJ as empty 'posturing'

With former President Donald Trump facing a 37-count federal criminal prosecution, countless Republicans are claiming that the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has been "weaponized" against members of their party. Even Republicans who are running against Trump in the 2024 GOP presidential primary are making that claim, and they are promising a dramatic overhaul of DOJ if elected president.

But journalist David M. Drucker, in an article published by The Dispatch on June 28, reports that privately, some Republicans are dismissing that promise as right-wing performance art.

Trump, DeSantis, Haley to speak at anti-government extremists’ ‘Joyful Warriors’ summit

Some of the Republican Party's leading 2024 presidential hopefuls are scheduled to speak this week at this week's "Joyful Warriors" summit in Philadelphia, hosted by Moms for Liberty, an organization designated by the Southern Poverty Law Center as an anti-government extremist group. Scheduled speakers include Donald Trump, Ron DeSantis Nikki Haley, Asa Hutchinson, and Vivek Ramaswamy.

"Moms for Liberty is a far-right organization that engages in anti-student inclusion activities and self-identifies as part of the modern parental rights movement. The group grew out of opposition to public health regulations for COVID-19, opposes LGBTQ+ and racially inclusive school curriculum, and has advocated books bans," says the Southern Poverty Law Center.

'Delusions of grandeur': Why people run for president despite having no chance of winning

The 2024 Republican presidential primary contest has ballooned to more than a dozen hopefuls jockeying for sufficient polling to qualify for the debates, the first of which is scheduled for August 23rd, 2023 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Where the GOP presidential candidates stand on national abortion bans and restrictions

WASHINGTON — The 2024 Republican presidential primary marks the first time in half a century that candidates will debate whether abortion should be restricted or banned at the federal level without the Roe v. Wade ruling making most of their proposals moot.

The U.S. Supreme Court’s decision last summer to overturn the nationwide, constitutional right to an abortion sent the question back to “the people and their elected representatives.”

Many Republicans have interpreted that as sending the issue back to state lawmakers and GOP-led states during the past year moved to pass bans and restrictions. The ruling also left the door open for Congress to pass legislation — a move many anti-abortion organizations would like to see.

Rick Wilson mocks DeSantis for duplicating Ted Cruz's disastrous 2016 presidential campaign

Reacting to a new NBC poll that shows polling numbers for Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) crashing since he announced his 2024 Republican Party presidential nomination bid, former GOP campaign consultant Rick Wilson gleefully compared his campaign to Texas Sen. Ted Cruz's presidential faceplant in 2016.

Speaking with host Chris Jansing, the Lincoln Project co-founder said the DeSantis campaign is going nowhere but down based on the latest poll numbers.

With the NBC poll showing a decline from 31 percent in April to 22 percent in June, while Mike Pence and Nikki Haley show modest increases, Wilson pointed out a massive misstep being made by the DeSantis campaign brain-trust.

Asked whether the debates will be a game-changer for any of Trump's rivals, Wilson explained, "If you're waiting for the debate to be a miracle, where your focus groups and your consultants write you a couple of one-line zingers, and then Trump can proceed and kind of consume the entire stage and wreck you, it's not going to work. Miracles don't work in this business."

"Look,Ron DeSantis is spending over $2 million a month right now in Iowa, maybe more than that, trying to win one primary just like Ted Cruz did," he added. "We see that Ted Cruz is not now and will never be president."

"All of these candidates fundamentally do not understand where the MAGA base is," he elaborated. They think they can say all the things the base likes, but the base wants to hear all those things from Donald Trump. It is not a possibility for any of these people to become Donald Trump."

He then claimed, "DeSantis himself has been probably the worst of the well-funded candidates I've ever witnessed and I've been in politics for over 30 years."

Trump is jealous he can't deploy the FBI on his own political enemies: former federal prosecutor

Former President Donald Trump is enraged over his federal indictment for hoarding classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago resort, with he and his GOP allies — and even his rivals for president, like former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy — baselessly claiming that he is the victim of political targeting by the state.

But one of the less-discussed reasons he is so angry, argued former federal prosecutor Shan Wu for The Daily Beast on Friday, is "Deep State envy": he really wants to use the FBI to target his political enemies, exactly the way he is wrongly claiming is being done to him.

Georgia GOP has a new plan to recruit Black voters

COLUMBUS – As the 2024 election approaches, Georgia conservatives are concerned about the direction of the party, and the tension between establishment Republicans and Donald Trump supporters is especially fraught.

But a growing number of Black and brown voters in the Georgia GOP say more needs to be done to bridge the divide between conservatives of color and the party’s leadership.

“Do we really want Blacks in the Republican Party? Because if we do, then why do we treat Black people like they are some oddity to be approached?” Catherine Davis said to a predominantly white audience at a minority outreach seminar at the Georgia GOP Convention in Columbus last weekend.
