Maxine Waters: Super 'secret' committee is 'a bad deal'
Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) appeared on MSNBC Monday morning to express her major concerns over the "super committee" deficit reduction talks.
The Congressional Black Caucus member, who has introduced a bill to strip power from the 12 person panel, called the entire committee "a bad deal."
"This super committee, this super secret committee, does not have transparency," she said. "It takes away the power of the away the power of the people who have been elected in their districts to go to Washington and represent them. We're not allow to amend this bill, we don't have any real say on this bill."
Waters centered the blame on the other side of the isle for super committee skepticism.
"And to tell you the truth, the Republicans are not negotiating in good faith," she said. "They will not touch the oil and gas industry, They will not touch the financial services super industry for cuts. They simply want to cut poor people. I don't see how they could come to any agreement."
Last week, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) shared his own criticism of the committee, which boiled down to the fact that no action.
"If there's a failure on the part of the super committee, we will be amongst the first on the floor to nullify that provision," McCain said. "Congress is not bound by this -- it's something we passed; we can reverse it."
"As far as I'm concerned, I will fight any additional cuts in defense spending," he added.
