Same sex binational spouses could still face deportation while DOMA lives

On April 2, 2012, the immigration rights organization Immigration Equality filed Blesch v. Holder on behalf of five married same sex couples who faced forcible separation by the government of the United States under the Defense of Marriage Act because one spouse is not an American citizen. Because DOMA prohibits the federal government from recognizing same sex marriages performed even in states where it is legal, American spouses in same sex relationships cannot sponsor their legal partners for green cards, which restricts those partners' abilities to work and puts them at risk for deportation.

Research paper finds music piracy 'benefits' album sales

Court ruling means shadowy campaign groups may have to disclose donors

On Monday, a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. circuit ruled to uphold an order for shadowy campaign groups like Karl Rove's Crossroads GPS to disclose their donors if they are producing federal campaign ads, or what's known to the FEC as "electioneering communications," said a report at Huffington Post.  Voting 2-1, the panel struck down a request for a stay on that order, which was handed down in April by a district court judge whose aim was to close a campaign finance loophole that has allowed outside spending to run amok in this election cycle.

Gay top Romney donor pulls support and backs Obama over same sex marriage

A gay supporter of former Massachusetts governor and presumptive presidential nominee Mitt Romney (R) has pulled his support and asked for his contribution back, the maximum allowed by law, over the candidate's stance on same sex marriage, according to CNN. Bill White, CEO of the New York City-based consulting firm the Constellations Group has supported Republican and Democratic politicians in the past, but after Saturday's commencement address at Liberty University, where Romney underlined his belief that marriage is "between one man and one woman," White has declared that he now supports President Barack Obama's re-election in November.
