Rudy Giuliani may have real pressure to take a deal now: Ex-prosecutor

Three of Trump's attorneys who were accused of helping to craft the 2020 election scheme — Sidney Powell, Kenneth Chesebro, and Jenna Ellis — have now pleaded guilty in the Georgia election racketeering case. The next lawyer to watch could be Rudy Giuliani, who not only was implicated by Ellis in her plea deal, but is also drowning in debt from legal fees he can't afford.

That's the view of former federal prosecutor Renato Mariotti, who walked through the situation on MSNBC's "The Beat" Friday.

These Trump allies haven't been offered plea deals – here's what that might mean

Several codefendants in Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis' sprawling racketeering case have received plea deals in exchange for their cooperation with prosecutors' case – but many have not.

The Guardian's Hugo Lowell reports that the lack of a deal for a number of key Trump associates -- most notably attorneys John Eastman and Rudy Giuliani – suggests that Willis is determined to make them stand trial without the possibility of cutting an agreement that will help them avoid jail time.

'Textbook RICO': Fani Willis' pursuit of Trump 'is getting stronger by the day'

With multiple plea deals already on the books, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is getting high praise for her pursuit of Donald Trump.

Over the past ten days, Willis has managed to flip lawyers Sidney Powell, Kenneth Chesebro and Jenna Ellis -- each of whom has likely given testimony that will be used against the the former president for attempting to tamper with the 2020 presidential election results.

According to a report from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Willis "is following a well-worn playbook, legal experts say, working her way up the hierarchy by leveraging Georgia’s sprawling anti-racketeering law."

POLL: Should Trump be allowed to run for office?

According to former former DeKalb DA Gwen Keyes Fleming, "Her case is getting stronger by the day.”

Emory University Morgan Cloud added, "This is not only a classic organized crime conspiracy formula for success for a prosecution team, this is the classic format for a prosecution of any organization. If this were a white collar investigation of a corporation for alleged wrongdoing, it’s the same mechanism.”

“I would expect to see Fani Willis plead out a lot of the lower people a lot more quickly now that she’s getting some of the higher people,” Minneapolis-based law professor Grell Jeff -- who specializes in RICO cases --explained. “If I were someone like Rudy Giuliani, I would be working night and day to get myself pled out. And if I were representing Trump, I think everybody who pleads out makes his case that much more difficult.”

Jenna Ellis under new investigation by authorities in Colorado

Jenna Ellis, the lawyer who represented former President Donald Trump as he tried to overturn the 2020 election, is under investigation by the state office that oversees attorney conduct in Colorado.

Ellis, who until recently was a Colorado resident and who is licensed to practice law in the state, was publicly censured in Colorado after a professional misconduct investigation in March, when Ellis admitted that multiple statements she made on Trump’s behalf in late 2020 about the presidential election being stolen were “misrepresentations.”

On Tuesday she pleaded guilty in Fulton County, Georgia, to a felony charge of aiding and abetting false statements and writings. The plea came as part of a deal she struck with local prosecutors who in August named 19 defendants, including Ellis and Trump, in an election interference-related racketeering case.

Here's Fani Willis' secret weapon delivering 'big wins' in Trump racketeering case

Fani Willis has a key prosecutor in her camp who has been, unbeknownst to many political observers, instrumental in the office's victories, including the guilty pleas from three attorneys for former President Donald Trump, reported Vanity Fair on Thursday.

"The surprising, rapid-fire run of recent guilty pleas by former Trump lawyers Sidney Powell, Kenneth Chesebro, and Jenna Ellis showcased a member of Willis’s team whom Trump and his remaining codefendants will be getting to know much better," wrote Chris Smith. "Daysha Young, a tough-minded, experienced prosecutor who was speaking for the state of Georgia in those three court appearances, is the executive assistant district attorney. And Young, a Georgia defense lawyer says, is the kind of trial lawyer who can instill real fear in defendants."
