The View celebrates Trump's appeals court defeat: 'Can we get an amen?'
The Washington, D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals handed down its decision on Donald Trump's absolute immunity case just as "The View" was starting on Tuesday. So the co-hosts addressed the matter Wednesday, dancing on the grave of Trump's legal defense.
Goldberg began reading the news about Trump's latest legal loss in the style of a preacher.
"Can we get an amen?" Joy Behar chimed in.
"And they said, you can appeal!" Goldberg continued. "But we don't think you're gonna win! Because that's like giving power held unaccountable to the crazy people. You can't have it. That's what happened."
Sunny Hostin, a former federal prosecutor, called it a "well-written" decision. "It relies on legal precedent and said this, we cannot—"
"Cannot!" Goldberg chimed in.
Hostin continued: "Cannot accept President Trump's claim to have unbounded authority to commit crimes that would neutralize the most fundamental —
"Fundamental!" Goldberg echoed.
"Check on executive power," Hostin closed.
"Check," said Goldberg.
"So I think what is also very important about it, they said if you want to have a rehashing in front of this court, which actually has 11 members and not 3, it's called embank, you can do that," Hostin continued. "If you do that, the trial that's being held up in D.C. is going forward. And then they also said — and if you want to appeal to the Supreme Court, you better do it by next Monday."
"In other words, he's not a king, just a crook with a mug shot," Behar quipped.
Former Trump communications director Alyssa Farah Griffin agreed the important piece was what Hostin read.
"I had fears he would use every delay tactic to put off the case and this ensures it will happen before the election. Because some of the others won't. This is the one the American people deserve to know if he is a convicted felon by the time they go to the voting booth," she explained.
