Following an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) suggested that the head of the Secret Service was to blame because she was a "DEI initiative person."

Burchett was flanked by two rifles on Sunday while he spoke to Fox News about the shooting of the former president. He argued that Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle was hired because of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies.

Following an assassination attempt against presumptive 2024 GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania near Pittsburgh on Saturday afternoon, July 13, some members of Trump's team are claiming that a request for extra U.S. Secret Service protection was denied.

But according to MSNBC's Kyle Griffin, that claim is false.

A video acquired by the tabloid website TMZ appears to show the suspected gunman who shot at former President Donald Trump before the shooting, and then shows the suspect again after he was killed by Secret Service agents. The video appears below or at this link.

According to the TMZ report, the clip "shows the moment the gunman opened fire at the Butler, PA rally Saturday -- and you can see the guy looking through either a scope or iron sights on a roof ... with people watching down below and freaking out, their panic palpable."

Donald Trump Jr. suggested Sunday that Democrats were responsible for an attempted assassination of his father.

A day after a gunman shot at the former president, his son spoke to Newsmax about the incident.

Federal law enforcement officials have identified the shooter of former President Donald Trump as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, a native of Bethel Park, PA, a relatively affluent area south of Pittsburgh about an hour's drive from where Trump was speaking Saturday night.

They said they found two explosive devices in Crooks' car and may have found a third at his residence. President Joe Biden has said he will address the nation about the incident today at 1:30pm E.T.

An interview with a Pennsylvania Republican mayor who was in attendance at the rally when Donald Trump was shot in the ear, went sideways with NBC's Tom Llamas pulling him up short after he went on a rant attacking Trump's critics.

With Llamas standing at the site of the assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, he brought on Mayor Jondavid Longo (R) of nearby Slippery Rock to describe what he saw.

Asked if he had any idea what compelled the shooter to attempt killing Trump, Longo admitted he didn't know him and then added, "I couldn't tell you anything more about the motive, sir. I think we all have our own opinions and guesses on why somebody would be driven to do this."

"What I will say is that it is very clear, and I'm going to continue to refer to him as an animal and a maniac who is unwell mentally, and my first thoughts, without knowing motive, is that there's a lot of vitriol and hateful rhetoric that is oftentimes directed at president Trump and his supporters and very some strong language, and very strong language sometimes."

He continued, "So it is my hope the hateful rhetoric from the left, these claims that Donald J Trump's presidency would destroy any remnant of democracy in the United States or create some kind of theocratic fascist state where women have no rights, it is really my hope that that kind of language didn't motivate this."

'"Yes mayor, I understand that and I don't think it is time to get into a debate about, you know, both sides and who says what because it is too early and fresh and what we need right now is information about why this happened," Llamas interjected.

Immediately following the attempted assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, law enforcement officials claimed to two different reporters that former Trump was not grazed by a bullet but rather by glass shards.

These claims have subsequently been found to be false. Videos captured at the time of the incident show that the teleprompters — who individuals believed to have been shattered — were intact following the shooting. Though some individuals believed a corner of the teleprompter had been shattered, Snopes later reported that it was in fact just a reflection of another object.

CBS reporter Robert Costa pushed back on CBS White House correspondent Ed O'Keefe after he suggested that Democrats were calling on President Joe Biden to drop out of the race following the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.

During a discussion on Face the Nation, host Margaret Brennan asked O'Keefe if Biden was changing his campaign plans following the shooting.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) dodged a question about heated political rhetoric from his fellow Republican senators following the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.

During a Sunday interview on NBC's Meet the Press, host Kristen Welker noted that Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) argued that President Joe Biden had incited the shooting.

Fox News contributor Juan Williams reminded his colleagues that the man who allegedly attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump was a Republican.

"I mean, it's not only when you think about the president, former President Trump, but also the people in the audience, the people who died, and you understand the danger," Williams explained during a panel discussion on Fox News Sunday. "It just makes you feel like the country is, the level of political polarization in the country is at a danger point."

ABC host Martha Raddatz pushed back on Donald Trump supporters who blamed his attempted assassination on President Joe Biden.

During ABC's This Week program on Sunday, Raddatz noted that Sen. J.D. Vance has said Biden's campaign inspired the shooting attempt.
