Hush money jury composition shows things aren't 'going to go well for Trump': legal expert

Former President Donald Trump has drawn a difficult jury to defend against, former prosecutor Kristy Greenberg argued to MSNBC's Chris Hayes on Friday evening.

"Let's talk about the jury, because we now have 12 jurors and six alternates," said Hayes. "What is your impression — what are your thoughts on how this jury has come together, what the composition looks like?"

Trump lawyer 'mortified' his client is 'making faces' in trial: former colleague

Defendant Donald Trump's trial demeanor has him being sketched or photographed looking cross, sleeping, slouching, and bored, and this is likely vexing his trial attorney Todd Blanche.

Former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Preet Bharara made note of the four days of trial wearing down former President Donald Trump's pristine veneer, resulting in him scowling at the judge and craning his head to make eyes with some jurors.

Trump lawyers in for 'hellish weekend' after judge issues 'serious sanction': legal expert

Former President Donald Trump's trial antics are already starting to hurt him, former federal prosecutor Harry Litman explained to MSNBC's Joy Reid on Friday — and make life hell for his attorneys.

The problem is, he explained, Trump's repeated penchant for attacking witnesses and violating gag orders has led to prosecutors keeping a witness who will testify at trial secret, and the judge allowing that would effectively be a "serious sanction" against Trump's behavior that will make preparing his defense considerably harder.

Ex-prosecutor says Alvin Bragg has a 'very compelling' piece of evidence to bring out

Former President Donald Trump has a number of defenses planned at his criminal hush money trial in Manhattan, and one of the biggest is trying to discredit his former attorney Michael Cohen, who arranged the alleged payments and will be testifying about them at trial.

But there's a straightforward way Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg can clap back at that, former federal prosecutor Andrew Weissmann told MSNBC's Ari Melber on Friday: pull out the evidence showing there's no way Trump couldn't have known what Cohen was doing.

Trump's lawyers throw another 'Hail Mary pass' to halt hush money trial due to unfair jury

Four days into the historic trial of Donald Trump's criminal hush money case was enough. So his attorneys are desperately lobbing "Hail Mary" legal filings in an attempt to put the whole thing on ice.

"A fair and impartial jury cannot be selected in New York county as evidenced by the extreme difficulty in procuring a venire resulting from the the significant bias against president trump that permeates the jury pool," reads a motion put forward to the New York Court of Appeals on Friday night by former President Donald Trump's legal team.

Trump reportedly 'fuming' when Judge Merchan addressed him 'like a man addressing his dog'

As the 45th president of the United States, Donald Trump isn't used to being reminded that he's now a criminal defendant. He got one stark reminder from Judge Juan Merchan on Friday, according to a new report.

The Daily Beast's Jose Pagliery reported that during Friday's jury selection, Merchan had to tell Trump to sit down after he abruptly stood up before the judge finished his sentence. Merchan had just gotten through more than an hour of back-and-forth arguments with both the prosecution and the defense about a contempt hearing scheduled for next week, where Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is alleging that Trump has repeatedly violated the court's gag order.

'I have to jump in': Trump lawyer interrupted by MSNBC host while discussing criminal case

Former President Donald Trump's one-time attorney Tim Parlatore clashed with MSNBC's Ari Melber on Friday over the issue of how the former president could effectively impeach the testimony of Michael Cohen, another former Trump attorney planning to give evidence against him in the Manhattan hush payment trial.

The dispute flared when Parlatore explained how the Trump camp could use yet another lawyer linked to Trump, Bob Costello — and Melber, himself a lawyer, was unconvinced.

'This is a bad look': Trump said to be hurting his election chances with criminal trial

Former President Donald Trump has just gone through the first week of his criminal hush payment trial in Manhattan — and it's already hurting him politically, said commentator Molly Jong-Fast on MSNBC's "Deadline: White House" on Friday evening.

The conventional wisdom for months has been that the Trump trials, and particularly the Manhattan trial, will not significantly impact him, with large numbers of voters simply not caring about it. But this ignores that a great many non-Trump supporters would need to vote for Trump to get him elected — and, Jong-Fast said, this trial makes it less likely.

House Speaker Mike Johnson's (R-Louisiana) job is in deeper peril after a third House Republican officially endorsed Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's (R-Georgia) motion to vacate him.

According to NBC News, Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Arizona) is now joining Greene's campaign to strip Johnson of the gavel, along with Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Kentucky). With three Republicans on board, Johnson could lose his job if all Democrats also vote in favor of the motion in the event Greene brings it to the floor.
