Supreme Court hands Trump key win in abrupt shadow docket decision

The right flank of the Supreme Court allowed President Donald Trump to fire independent agency heads at a pair of key government institutions intended to be shielded from executive interference in an order released on Thursday.

The 6-3 move, with all liberal justices dissenting, constitutes yet another controversial use of the so-called "shadow docket," or decisions issued on an emergency basis without hearing the merits of the case or making any real review of the matter.

Furious judge mulls criminal contempt as Trump admin found to have blatantly ignored order

A federal judge found the Trump administration violated his order from last month blocking officials from deporting foreign nationals to countries that aren't their own without giving them a chance to challenge their removal.

Boston-based federal judge Brian E. Murphy strongly rebuked the administration Wednesday when he ruled on an emergency motion filed by men who may have been deported to South Sudan, a violence-plagued nation they had never visited. It's not clear whether the court will impose any punishment on Donald Trump's officials, reported the New York Times.

Judge fires warning shot at cagey Trump officials: 'Seems like it may be contempt'

Trump administration officials got a dressing down from a federal judge on Tuesday over a planeload of migrants apparently being shipped to South Sudan, a country none of them are from, in possible violation of existing court orders, reported The New York Times.

This plane, and the legal complaint filed that mentioned it, was first flagged earlier in the day by American Immigration Council expert Aaron Reichlin-Melnick, who noted that prior court rulings had said migrants must have greater notice and options to object when being sent to a country they have no ties to.
