President Donald Trump threatened Mexico wth "escalating consequences," asserting the U.S. ally owes Texas a massive amount of water under a decades-old treaty and is "unfortunately violating their Treaty obligation."

Under the 1944 U.S.-Mexico Water Treaty, Mexico is obligated to deliver water to the United States, specifically Texas. The treaty requires Mexico to provide nearly 1.8 million acre-feet of water every five years from six tributaries that flow into the Rio Grande.

After canceling a Wednesday vote in the House on a compromise budget resolution because he couldn't get his caucus in line, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) is in a for a "wild day" Thursday, according to Punchbowl News' Jake Sherman.

In his morning report, Sherman noted that Johnson has been trying to sway at least 12 hard-right members who are hard "no" because the resolution doesn't contain enough deep cuts which, at the end of the day, would not be approved by the more moderate Senate.

As Sherman wrote on X, "You can no longer paper over the massive gap between House and Senate Rs on spending cuts. It’s a massive issue that is going to define the next stage of passing Trump's agenda."
