Trump conceded his economic strategy is floundering with beef move: GOP strategist

GOP strategist Marc Short called out President Donald Trump's strategy for lowering beef prices as an admission that he raised prices.

During a Thursday appearance on CNN, Short spoke about Trump's executive order renaming Lake Ontario to Lake America and how Republican candidates are feeling about it ahead of a critical midterm race in November.

"I think there are a lot of Republicans who are facing a midterm election in less than three months, and are anxious to address some of the issues that Americans view as top priorities," Short said. "And not this."...

Senate Republican committed 'political malpractice' on CBS' Face the Nation: conservative

A conservative economic expert warned Monday that a Republican lawmaker worth millions had made a mistake after a CBS interview.

Jessica Riedl, a fellow at the Brookings Institution and budget policy expert who has worked on four different presidential campaigns, described why Sen. John Kennedy's (R-LA) message on "Face the Nation" could backfire for the Republican Party with midterms looming.

"Americans aren't even willing to pay for causes they believe in and that directly benefit them (trust me, I'm a federal budget expert)," Riedl wrote on X. "Telling them to pay significantly for causes that most don't even care about (and right before an election!) is political malpractice."...

'You want to cry': MAGA voters tell WSJ they feel 'horrible' about voting for Trump

A Wall Street Journal report revealed Saturday the Americans who voted for President Donald Trump have soured on him amid the economic fallout of the Iran war.

According to the Journal, new polls by the Cook Political Report found that more voters disapprove of Trump's handling of the economy after gas prices jumped during the Iran war. The polls cited by the Journal found that 61 percent of voters disapprove of how Trump is handling the economy.

The Journal also included comments from Trump voters around the country who admitted that they're not feeling great about their pick because Trump seemed to prioritize a war in Iran over affordability....

'Newsflash— it's not working': MS NOW dumps more bad news in Trump's lap

Trump sees his slate of D.C. vanity projects a "welcome distraction" from an ongoing affordability crisis, but MS NOW slammed the idea.

"Newsflash, it's not working," MS NOW reporter Jake Traylor said.

Traylor quoted a former White House official who said that Trump saw his reflecting pool, various fountains, and other projects as "a welcome distraction" from the ongoing war in Iran and an affordability crisis in the United States....

Scott Bessent's combative hearing results in tense stare-down with steaming lawmaker

Rep. Judy Chu (D-CA) had a stern response to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Thursday during a congressional hearing after he attempted to dodge her question.

Bessent was testifying before the House Ways and Means Committee when Chu directly asked him if he had the same thoughts as President Donald Trump, after he recently told reporters in interviews about the impact of the Iran war on Americans' cost of living that he wasn't concerned. Trump said, "I don't think about Americans' financial situation. I don't think about anybody."

"Do you agree with President Trump that you also do not care about Americans' financial situation?" Chu asked....

Internet mocks 'shameless creature' Trump official over 'optimistic' consumer claims

President Donald Trump's top economic adviser Kevin Hassett claimed that American consumers are "optimistic" in an interview with Fox News on Tuesday, prompting people to push back online.

Hassett was responding to reports that skyrocketing gas prices amid the Iran war and the rising cost of living have sent consumer confidence plummeting. Earlier this month, he praised how credit card spending was "through the roof" for higher-priced gasoline.

"The thing that I've seen when I look at credit card data and other things that I can get for the private sector, is that while people have been spending more money at gas stations they've been spending more money on everything else, which means that they're very, very optimistic about the state of the economy — and they should be — if you look at GDP right now it's north of 4 percent," Hassett said. "And so despite this disruption, all the momentum that we've built with the Big Beautiful Bill and AI and everything else is really what the main economic story in the U.S. is."...
