'Just a congressman!' Trump cracks wise as call interrupts executive order event

President Donald Trump's cell phone interrupted his executive order signing in the Oval Office Friday as he met with business executives from the nuclear industry.

"Oh, it's a phone call. Do you mind?" Trump quipped as those in the room laughed.

Trump picked up the phone and joked, "Just a congressman!" ...

'Schrödinger’s deal': Internet ridicules Scott Bessent's trade war promise fails

Critics mocked Treasury secretary Scott Bessent's trade war promises when interrogated by Fox News's Bill Hemmer on Friday.

The interview came after President Donald Trump threatened 50% tariffs on the European Union and 25% tariffs on Apple iPhones that are not made in the United States. His Truth Social announcement caused the stock markets to plummet.

Even those on the right seemed concerned about Bessent's answers, with @JohnBoyCali — whose bio says he's "anti-radical democrats" — posted to X, "Scott Bessent seemed more cautious than usual this AM on Fox. I wonder what the real reason is? Maybe to lower expectations a bit?"...

'Trade violence': Onlookers accuse Trump of 'manipulation' as he 'tanks markets'

Critics of President Donald Trump denounced Friday's announcement that he was "recommending" huge tariffs on the European Union as well as Apple, which — once again — caused the stock markets to take a dive.

Trump posted on social media that he was punishing the EU for being "very difficult to deal with" on trade by "recommending a straight 50% Tariff on the European Union, starting on June 1, 2025."

Trump also threatened Apple with a 25% tariff for not manufacturing iPhones in the United States....

Enviro congressman’s wife buys — then dumps — dozens of oil, energy and other stocks

An environmentalist Democratic congressman acknowledged that his wife purchased — then quickly dumped — nearly 100 stocks in various oil, energy, tobacco, defense and other companies, blaming a new investment firm for going on an erroneous stock shopping spree.

Rep. Greg Stanton (D-AZ) reported that Nicole Stanton’s 94 stock purchases included shares in fossil fuel giants Chevron, ExxonMobil and ConocoPhillips; power utility NextEra Energy; tobacco company Philip Morris International; transportation companies Union Pacific and Tesla and communications technology company and defense contractor Qualcomm, to name a few.

Stanton explained the apparent snafu in a Nov. 9 disclosure to Congress: “In Sept. 2023, my wife started with a new investment firm for her assets, and this investment firm was unaware of our policy against owning individual stocks. On Sept. 26, the new investment firm purchased stock mimicking the S&P 500. I learned of the purchase of stock on Oct. 21, and immediately on the next business day (Oct. 23) requested the stocks be divested. The new investment firm sold the stock and instead invested in Exchange Traded Funds.”...

Apple to spend billions of dollars on U.S.-made 5G tech

San Francisco (AFP) - Apple on Tuesday announced a multi-billion-dollar collaboration with US tech firm Broadcom to make "cutting edge" components for wirelessly connecting to high-speed 5G telecom networks. The iPhone maker did not specify exactly how many billions of dollars it would put into the Broadcom alliance, but said it is part of a commitment to invest in the US economy. "We're thrilled to make commitments that harness the ingenuity, creativity, and innovative spirit of American manufacturing," Apple chief executive Tim Cook said in a statement. "All of Apple's products depend on tec......
Apple to start letting people fix their own iPhones

Apple to start letting people fix their own iPhones

San Francisco (AFP) - Apple on Wednesday said it will begin allowing people to fix gadgets they buy from the Silicon Valley giant in a concession seen as a victory for "right-to-repair" advocates. The iPhone and Mac computer maker has long restricted repairs to technicians at "Genius bars" in its shops or at authorized service centers, where device owners often meet with lengthy waits and costly tabs. "We never thought we'd see the day," read a tweet from @iFixit, which says it offers repair guides for a range of devices. "There are some catches, but were thrilled to see Apple admit what we've......
