'Irony': Ex-Trump aide to sit with AP journalists who sued him for correspondents' dinner

A former Trump aide planning to attend a major press event will have to sit with a group of journalists who sued him.

Taylor Budowich, one of Trump's former chiefs of staff, will have to rub shoulders with reporters from the Associated Press, who sued him last year for kicking them out of the press pool. Budowich confirmed that "as a fan of irony, I will be with the Associated Press" at the White House Correspondents' Dinner on Saturday, he told Axios reporter Mike Allen on Friday.

Journalist Jeremy Barr posted on X that Budowich's name may be off the lawsuit now. Still, "unless he’s joking, that’s quite something," Barr wrote. The AP named Budowich as the name target in its lawsuit. Budowich booted them because of the legacy media outlet's refusal to adopt Trump's "Gulf of America" renaming. ...

'Woe to the public': Trump admin official gets 40-minute grilling in Gulf of America case

A federal judge pressed a Trump administration official Monday in an appeal case involving The Associated Press refusing to call the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America.

AP sued the government after it banned its journalists from covering events at the White House, and in a new circuit court panel in Washington, D.C., a Trump official responded to questions from a judge about who can visit the White House, The Washington Post reported.

Jacob M. Roth, the Justice Department's attorney, said the president can use "broad discretion to pick whom he wants to invite into the Oval Office and onto Air Force One."

'World full of unprecedented things': Trump mocked in striking Associated Press fact-check

The Associated Press roasted President Donald Trump in a new video Monday that showed the number of times he's claimed something he's done was "never before seen."

"According to President Donald Trump, the world is full of unprecedented things," AP says in the tongue-in-cheek video.

"As President Donald Trump tells it, never-before-seen things are happening with stunning regularity," the Associated Press shared on social media. "He's used some variation of "never seen before" roughly 200 times this year alone, more than in any year as president, according to Roll Call Factba.se."...

Iranian mom snatched by ICE while gardening freed after Republican intervenes

An Iranian mother who was seized by ICE while gardening at her New Orleans home has been freed after a prominent Republican intervened with the Department of Homeland Security.

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) told media outlet WDSU that he asked DHS to give 64-year-old Mandonna “Donna” Kashanian "a fair shake" by considering "her life's work."

That includes being a “'devoted mother and wife, a caretaker, neighbor and dedicated volunteer' with Habitat for Humanity, her local school district and other organizations," Rep. Stephanie Hilferty, a Louisiana House Republican, told The Associated Press....

Watch: Protester prevents Antony Blinken from giving new details on hostage deal

Secretary of State Antony Blinken was the target of a heckler Thursday as he addressed the Israel-Hamas ceasefire that threatened to be delayed as Israel considered a vote on the deal.

Blinken had just thanked "people that I've gotten to know as colleagues" for "asking the tough questions" during his four years in the post.

"Let me simply say how much I appreciate the partnership, the professionalism, the work that we've done," Blinken said, continuing, "Being on the receiving end, sometimes that's not always the most comfortable thing, not the most enjoyable thing, but it is the most necessary thing in on democracy." ...

Donald Trump exploits AP photo error for new $99 'Save America' book

Former President Donald Trump has exploited a licensing error by the Associated Press and plans to publish a now-iconic AP photo of himself on the cover of his latest book, Raw Story has learned.

The $99 book — titled “Save America” and published by Winning Team Publishing, which Trump's son Donald Trump Jr. co-founded — features AP photographer Evan Vucci’s image of Trump pumping his fist skyward seconds after a gunman’s bullet hit Trump’s ear during a July 13 assassination attempt in Butler, Pa.

“In all the activity over the weekend of July 13, we neglected to immediately add full restrictions to photos from the attempted assassination of former President Trump to make clear they are for editorial use only,” said Nicole Meir, media relations manager for AP. “We added those restrictions three days later. During that window, a handful of organizations licensed the image for non-editorial purposes.”...
