'Toxic at the ballot box': Conservative shows why 'Trump is in for a major defeat'

Donald Trump went from being one of the unlikeliest of American presidents to having a firm grip on the Republican Party, its leadership, and its most extreme members despite his long history of failure at the ballot box in regards to his handpicked candidates.

The GOP will come to regret those failures when Trump loses in 2024, according to conservative columnist Reed Galen, in "what is likely to be a devastating electoral defeat."

"Trump’s erratic behavior, anti-democratic rhetoric, and threats against his opponents will contribute to his loss in November’s presidential election," writes Galen. "But it is America’s demographic makeup that will ultimately send Trump into permanent retirement. The old wisdom that 'demographics is destiny' – coined by the French philosopher Auguste Comte – may well be more relevant to the outcome than it has been to any previous presidential election."...

'It really stands out': Expert shows why SCOTUS likely to post major Trump ruling Monday

The Supreme Court on Sunday signaled that it would release a decision on Donald Trump's Colorado ballot question on Monday, and a former federal prosecutor explained why that's the case.

Former Deputy Assistant Attorney General Harry Litman, who regularly weighs in Trump's legal troubles, appeared on CNN Newsroom on Sunday to discuss the Supreme Court's surprise alert. Earlier in the day, the SCOTUS notice caused some experts to worry that the top court was giving under support to Trump's 2024 electoral efforts.

'Really unusual' Supreme Court notice raises questions about Trump case

The Supreme Court may have just tipped its hand in a case stemming from a Donald Trump appeal, and some experts have called it "completely inappropriate."

Numerous reporters flagged a Supreme Court notice on Sunday that has been described as "really unusual" and "curious."

In doing so, according to political and legal scholars, SCOTUS is likely saying it will take on Trump's ballot case on Monday. The former president was found by the state of Colorado to be ineligible to run for office based on his participation in the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection....

MAGA freaks out after Trump is removed from ballot in a third state

A state judge in Illinois has ruled that former President Donald Trump cannot appear on the primary ballot due to being disqualified under the Insurrection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment — the third state where this has happened, after Colorado and Maine.

The Supreme Court is scheduled to rule any day now on whether states are allowed to do this, and many legal experts believe they are likely to come down against it. But in the meantime, Trump supporters reacted to the news with a fresh wave of fury — some of them pushing conspiracy theories, and most of them attacking Cook County Circuit Judge Tracie Porter, who issued the ruling.

"They rigged the election in 2020 and they're trying to do it again in 2024," wrote Trump influencer Collin Rugg. "During a recent show, Tucker Carlson explained how the 2024 election was 'rigged,' specifically pointing at how the left changed the rules with mail-in ballots. For those who are new here, the 2020 election was the first election in 70 years where bellwether counties did *not* successfully elect the US president. It was also the same election where the rules were changed and ballots were dumped into blue cities."...

'Hostile fire': Ex-Trump lawyer highlights moment Neil Gorsuch targeted his former clerk

The Supreme Court was filled with drama as former law clerks were challenged by their former bosses.

For Trump's former attorney in his federal classified documents obstruction case Jim Trusty, there was one moment where fireworks seemed to be set off.

It was Judge Neil Gorsuch who was sparring with his former clerk Jason Murray about the merits of his case where he was attempting to convince the bench that former President Donald Trump deserved to be disqualified in Colorado's GOP primary contest because he claimed he engaged in insurrection which violates the Constitution. ...

'Fascinating': Experts explain what to look for in Supreme Court's Trump ballot ruling

When the nine justices making up the Supreme Court convene on Thursday, they will try to decide whether the Civil War-era Section 3 of the 14th Amendment — barring anyone from seeking office who once took an oath to uphold the Constitution but then "engaged” in “insurrection or rebellion” against it — applies to the presidency and Trump.

Former federal prosecutor Elie Honig is especially interested in how the court's three liberal-leaning justices will engage when they hear oral arguments in the case.

"It's going to be fascinating," he said....
