‘Total disaster’: Bari Weiss dealt ‘real indictment’ as CBS turmoil complicates CNN plans

Paramount CEO David Ellison’s effort to keep CNN chief Mark Thompson aboard signals doubts about Bari Weiss’s ability to oversee the network after turmoil at CBS News, Status founder Oliver Darcy argued.

“I think that’s a real indictment of her. I really do,” Darcy said Friday on Status’s "Powerlines" podcast as he dug into Ellison’s apparent assessment that Weiss isn’t ready for the high-profile role.

“I don’t think this is a good sign for Barry Weiss,” he added....

Bari Weiss's CNN takeover in jeopardy as Paramount sours on her: expert

Paramount boss David Ellison has reportedly cooled on CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss after her '60 Minutes' debacle, throwing her CNN takeover into doubt.

Status founder Oliver Darcy made the claim on Saturday's episode of the "Power Lines" podcast, as CNN staffers brace for Ellison's Paramount Skydance to take control of their network within weeks.

Paramount cleared its last major obstacle this week when a dozen states led by California Attorney General Rob Bonta settled their lawsuit blocking its merger with Warner Bros. Discovery. The deal required no structural changes, and CNN was not spun off....

'The show is dead': CBS insider calls Bari Weiss' '60 Minutes' a sewn-up 'Frankenstein'

CBS News insiders are sounding the alarm over Bari Weiss' revamped '60 Minutes,' with one senior staffer declaring the show already "dead."

The grim verdict came from an unnamed CBS News senior staffer who spoke with media columnist Justin Baragona in a Wednesday article for his Zeteo newsletter "Ragebait."

"The show is dead. We're just looking at some Frankenstein of bits sewn together of mismatched pieces," the staffer told Baragona. "I think the season is in trouble."...

Bari Weiss torched as '60 Minutes' premiere hits worst ratings this century: 'A loser'

Eyes are on CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss as the final ratings for the '60 Minutes' premiere come in, and they don't look good.

On Tuesday, the final Nielsen ratings for the season debut of '60 Minutes' revealed that the show's viewership had dropped by about 21 percent. The drop in ratings came after veteran '60 Minutes' producers and correspondents left, and as Weiss and her boss, Paramount CEO David Ellison, have been criticized for their ties to President Donald Trump and his administration.

Other CBS News programs have seen their ratings plummet since Weiss took over earlier this year as well. Media reporter Justin Baragona noted that 7.9 million total viewers watched the '60 Minutes' season premiere, which marked "the first time this century it's premiered with fewer than 9 million viewers."...

Maria Bartiromo courting Trump-friendly network days after Fox ouster: report

Anonymous insiders say that Maria Bartiromo has already opened talks with CBS News chief Bari Weiss about a possible role on '60 Minutes.'

In an article for his newsletter, Naughty But Nice, gossip columnist Rob Shuter reported that Bartiromo and Weiss have already spoken and that a spot on '60 Minutes' is among the possibilities under discussion.

"Maria and Bari have already spoken," a television insider told Shuter. "Maria isn't sitting around licking her wounds. She's moving fast, and '60 Minutes' is absolutely in the mix. She wants to remain a major player."...

Displeased CBS News legend scolds viewers angry at Bari Weiss takeover

Returning CBS News anchor Norah O'Donnell took to Instagram to plead with viewers not to let her boss, Bari Weiss, scare them away.

CBS Mornings announced O'Donnell's return in an Instagram post, and Zeteo media columnist Justin Baragona pointed out in a post on X how she began defending Weiss, the CBS editor-in-chief, in the comments. Weiss has come under fire as the ratings for CBS Mornings and CBS Evening News have plummeted and the network's flagship show, "60 Minutes," has lost veteran correspondents.

Instagram user @courtneylonniestevens wrote, "I feel Norah is too good to stay with CBS. I wish some other news force had scooped her up. As long as Bari Weiss and the Ellisons are in charge bye bye," referring to David Ellison, the CEO of CBS' parent company, Paramount, and his father, Oracle founder Larry Ellison. The Ellisons have been criticized as Trump allies....
