Independent skewers 'chicken' GOP with brutal ad as Trump's base revolts over beef

An Independent Senate candidate in Nebraska is gaining momentum by attacking Republicans with pun-loaded insults as President Donald Trump's cheap foreign beef sours rural voters on the GOP.

The campaign and fallout around it were detailed in a Saturday article by Politico, which found that Trump's plan to lower beef prices has enraged ranchers who usually vote Republican.

Senate candidate Dan Osborn is challenging Sen. Pete Ricketts (R-NE) with an ad this week that his campaign will spend at least six figures airing, according to Politico....

Trump's meeting with 'billionaire beef bro' flagged by legal expert: 'The timing stinks'

Lawyer and journalist Katie Phang is questioning the timing of a private Oval Office meeting between President Donald Trump and a bribery-linked Brazilian billionaire.

On August 20, Joesley Batista met with Trump, and the following day, the president announced the U.S. would allow up to 300,000 metric tons of imported beef product over the next 90 days, sold at 25 percent below market price, Phang explained in a Wednesday podcast episode. She noted that Batista's company, JBS, processes meat and is the world's largest meatpacker.

"I'm calling him the Brazilian billionaire beef bro of Donald Trump," Phang said....

Outrage as Trump official refuses to name source of U.S. beef: 'Why not?'

Outrage as Trump official refuses to name source of U.S. beef: 'Why not?'

A Trump Cabinet secretary's inability to say from which country the U.S. will import beef is spurring online outrage.

On Tuesday, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins was asked which countries have been in talks with the U.S. about stepping up beef imports. The question came amid Trump's plan to allow up to 300,000 metric tons of foreign beef to enter the U.S. without higher tariffs, which has been met with backlash within the GOP.

Rollins told reporters, "I am not privy to talk about" where the U.S. will be getting its beef, which stirred disbelief and anger about the secrecy....

Trump triggers economic alarm bells as exports of an American staple crater: report

The Trump administration erroneously touted export numbers for an American staple while the real numbers spark concern, per a report.

Reuters reported that the U.S. Department of Agriculture had to revise beef export sales and slash numbers by 90 percent compared to the incorrect number offered for a sales period ending in late June.

The USDA touted in early July that the exporters sold more than 126,000 metric tons of U.S. beef to foreign buyers, but the real number turned out to be just over 12,000 metric tons. ...

Trump Cabinet member blames RFK Jr.'s movement for sky-high beef prices

Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins blamed the Make America Healthy Again movement — at least in part — for soaring beef prices heading into Memorial Day weekend, telling Fox Business that Americans are eating more beef thanks to the MAHA-driven health craze.

"But this is also combined with Make America Healthy Again — people are eating more beef than ever before," Rollins said Wednesday on Fox Business. "This is an amazing testament to our incredible ranchers who produce the best beef in America."

Ground beef is now running roughly $6.70 to $6.90 a pound — about a dollar above historical norms — as cattle herds sit at a three-generation low....

'It won’t work': Analyst warns Trump repeating major mistake from ex-president

An analyst warns the "Trump-inflicted damage" to the U.S. economy will backfire on the Republican Party because "Americans are not fooled."

In an opinion piece for MSNBC, Helaine R. Olen, author of "Pound Foolish: Exposing the Dark Side of the Personal Finance Industry," outlines how President Donald Trump's campaign promises to bring prices down and improve the economy hasn't happened.

"Now that Trump is in the White House, Republicans are making the same mistake as Democrats during Joe Biden’s presidency: trying to convince voters that the economy is better than it is. It didn’t work for Democrats, and it won’t work for Republicans and Trump," Olen writes. ...
