'He was lying to me': Trump biographer recounts how ex-president misled him about loans

He reportedly keeps lying and never learns his lessons.

Donald Trump biographer Tim O'Brien, appearing on MSNBC's "The Last Word" with Lawrence O'Donnell, recounted a time when he was walking and talking at Mar-a-Lago with former President Donald Trump more than decade before he'd run for office.

The two were talking about the past and regrets especially about declaring bankruptcy. ...

Anyone who loans Trump bond money will have to 'fight like hell' to get repaid: biographer

Trump has admitted it is all but impossible for him to obtain the $464 million bond necessary while he appeals the civil fraud judgment against him, opening up the possibility that New York Attorney General Letitia James could begin seizing his assets. But notably, even Fox News commentators can't help but notice that no billionaire benefactors are leaping to help the former president.

On MSNBC Wednesday evening, anchor Joy Reid discussed the issue with award-winning Trump biographer David Cay Johnston, playing a clip from Fox in which conservative analyst Charles Gasparino said, "Generally Donald doesn't have a great record of paying back banks over the years. And Donald Trump — so, you know, you can sort of surmise from that what you will."

Johnston, who has known the former president for over 30 years, couldn't agree more forcefully....

'Bring a case': Trump's biographer says ex-president's taxes warrant a new criminal charge

Former president Donald J. Trump could face yet another criminal prosecution if his biographer has anything to say about it.

Trump biographer David Cay Johnston, who has covered Trump's taxes and financial matters for years, appeared on MSNBC's Alex Witt Reports Sunday. The host asked him about Trump's tax records.

"There's a lot of ifs on all of this. Going back to 2017 when you obtained some of his tax records from 2005. In 2022 you said his taxes were the best case yet for putting him in prison. Of course that has not happened. Could he be in legal jeopardy for that?" the host asked. ...

'Smoke and mirrors': Trump biographer spills insider details on ex-president's finances

Trump may need to put his money where his mouth is.

David Johnston, the author who penned the biography "The Making Of Donald Trump," suspects the $83.3 million a nine-member jury verdict in the second defamation trial brought by writer E. Jean Carroll against Donald Trump will force him to prove he has the coin.

"We may discover just how many smoke and mirrors [there are]," said Johnston during an appearance on CNN's "Anderson Cooper 360."...

'He's not': Internet debunks Trump's claim that he's better mentally now than 20 years ago

'He's not': Internet debunks Trump's claim that he's better mentally now than 20 years ago

Donald Trump on Wednesday was ridiculed for bragging that he is cognitively superior now than he was 20 years ago.

Trump at a rally in New Hampshire stated that he was better off in his brain than he was two decades ago, even going as far as to describe a basic cognitive test he says he once received.

"I feel like I'm about 35 years old," the former president said at the New Hampshire event. "I actually feel better now than I did 30 years ago... I think cognitively I'm better than I was 20 years ago. I don't know why."...

Revealed: Trump biographer discloses threat ex-president uses when he doesn't get his way

Former President Donald Trump has a particular threatening comment that he always falls back on when he senses he's no longer able to game the system, biographer Tim O'Brien told MSNBC's Joy Reid on Wednesday evening.

This comes as the former president faces a mounting pile of legal cases, both civil and criminal, few of which appear to be going his way.

"Trump was supposed to testify in his other case he's freaking out about, the money case in ... New York," said Reid. "He's not going to testify anymore because the rules said he couldn't go and do a political speech and he couldn't yell at the clerk. And so, he's like, no. I'm not — he was never going to testify. Let's just be clear."...
