The far-right group of lawmakers known as the Freedom Caucus is reportedly on the verge of folding, as its leader just lost a major election and donations are in freefall.

Rep. Bob Good, a Republican and the chairman of the controversial Freedom Caucus group since January, is asking for a recount after losing his primary race in Virginia to a GOP candidate who was supported by Donald Trump. If he does lose after the recount, he would be the first chair to be "voted out in the middle of their term," according to the Washington Times' Saturday report.

"The shift in political winds against Mr. Good was not tied directly to his role in the Freedom Caucus, but his downfall nevertheless jostled the group. For various reasons, fellow House Republicans, former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and, most importantly, former President Donald Trump backed Mr. Good’s primary opponent, Virginia state Sen. John McGuire," the report states. "Mr. Good viewed the opposition in his race as an effort by establishment Republicans to maintain the status quo of working with Democrats to fund war in Ukraine, drive up federal spending and reauthorize a foreign surveillance law that allows warrantless spying on Americans. He said he represents the opposite, someone who 'fights the Democrats' and policies Republicans campaigned against."...

"Bob McGuire" ran a great race as challenger in a heated Virginia Republican primary election that was separated by about 400 votes.

So spoke Donald Trump on Friday, who took a brief moment out of his rally in Chesapeake, Virginia, to rip a fellow Republican's loss, whom the MAGA leader of the free world recently accused of being a backstabber.

But Trump — who has famously boasted of acing cognitive tests in recent days, including at Thursday's presidential debate — couldn't seem to figure out who, exactly, was his sworn enemy and who should receive praise. ...

The race hasn't officially been called yet, but House Freedom Caucus chair Bob Good (R-VA) appears all but certain to lose to his Trump-endorsed primary challenger, John McGuire. But he doesn't seem keen on accepting his loss just yet — and his own colleagues are starting to chuckle at his denial.

This comes after Good blamed his loss on, among other things, fires that broke out at certain polling places on election day, which public officials promptly debunked as untrue.

According to Axios, "Good has said he plans to challenge the result if the race is called for his opponent, state Sen. John McGuire, and has demanded a 'do-over' in one county. He trailed McGuire by just 368 votes out of more than 62,000 cast in the primary, with mail-in votes to be counted. Good said on Steve Bannon's podcast Monday that he'll try to block certification of the results as he seeks an investigation."...
